1st Trimester

6 weeks and first time so I have a few questions :)

Hellllo!

I'm so new at all of this idk if I'm even doing this discussion thing right lol so please be patient with me! I also don't understand what a lot of the acronyms mean so please help me out if you use one, thanks!

So my first question has to do with my dr apnts. I just went to one last week when I found out but all the dr said was congrats and to take a prenatal. (didn't do any other testing because she thought my home test was accurate) Well I heard miscarriages are common so I was bummed she didn't double check to put me at ease. I just moved to England from the states so I'm far away from my family :( which has been really hard. But anyways I don't know what to expect here, maybe the care is a little different? What should I expect at my first apnt in a few weeks when Im 8 weeks? Is that when they can hear a heart beat? What will they do to me and are some things optional?  I just want to be prepared!

I haven't had morning sickness or anything but my stomach has been very uneasy. I don't eat anything until about noon. I can handle food, its not like I have to eat crackers or anything but I just don't like breakfast and I never want a sandwich lol Silly question but does anyone have any ideas for an easy, filling, nutritional lunch ?

Thanks everyone and congrats to all of you girlies too, hope all goes well Xx

Re: 6 weeks and first time so I have a few questions :)

  • First congratulations!  From my understanding, England is pro-midwifery and only if you have health risks will you see a physician.  Further, I think they are more laid back (rightfully so IMO) about pregnancy/birth and trust their bodies more.  But even in the states, there isn't anything to be done during the first trimester than do just what your doing- PNV, eating right, sleeping, etc.  OTC pregnancy tests are just as accurate (and less expensive) than the doctors office.  Try going to www.mothering.com forums, I believe they have a more diverse group of ladies.  Also, you may want to speak with ladies in England to get more of the information your seeking.
