Spitting up

Hi ladies! I was just breastfeeding my 4 week old baby girl and when I went to burp her she spit up A LOT! I mean it looked like someone turned on a faucet full blast. If I had to guess she spit up around 4 oz. it was absolutely crazy looking and have never seen this happen! I burp her every few minutes and have never had this happen! Someone please tell me they have seen this before???! I will post this on the breastfeeding page just in case nobody here has experienced it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Spitting up

  • My son does this all the time. Common. As long as they aren 't upset when they do it, there is no blood, not projectile ( hitting wAll), and they are gaining, it is ok. Plus, I was told it looks worse than it is.

  • Yea my little guy is 12 weeks and has been a spit up king since 3 weeks. In the beginning it hurt him bcoz of reflux but now he spits up quite happily unless it comes out his nose. Receiving blankets are a permanent part of our wardrobe and every piece of furniture has been baptized.

  • my daughter is 5 weeks and she spits up alot. Just wandering if this is normal.

  • Dd doesn't spit up too often but there have been a couple of times where it seemed like a huge amount. Thankfully one of those times was at the pediatricians and so I was able to ask if it was an abnormal amount. He said exactly what PP said. As long as baby is comfortable and is gaining weight, no need to worry. Still freaks me out though since it's a rare occasion!
