Pregnancy rash! Help!

I have a terrible rash that started on my lower tummy and has now spread to thighs, legs, back, boobs...I thought it started bc my MFM left that ultrasound gel on while chatting with me and the paper got all stuck to my skin, which I wiped with a wipe in the office that I later realized was not for skin.

Anyway, the itching started on Thursday evening (day after ultrasound). Then Friday night I got this terrible stomach virus, which DD and DH had a week earlier. Vomiting almost hourly for 12 hours straight, which made me pretty dehydrated. Since then, the rash has spread and gotten worse. Maybe bc my immune system is compromised?

Called the triage nurse (bc it's Sunday and I can't talk to a doc) and she said I could take Benadryl, use calamine lotion, cold compresses, oatmeal bath, etc.
Benadryl seems to help with the itching but not the spreading or inflammation. Will probably go in tmrw.

Anyone else had experience with this? I read a pregnancy rash is more common with multiples and could last until delivery?!?! I'm only 16 weeks. Miserable!!!!

I got a rash like that all over my body after I gave birth it was horrible! I got this stuff called grandpas pine tar soap from whole foods, it helped more than anything else. Also gold bonds medicated anti itch lotion. Lots of cold showers and try hard not to itch,, the more I did the worse it seemed to spread. You have my sympathy it really sucked.

  • I get rashes w every large hormonal change - when I get pg, when I deliver, and when I wean from BFing.

I like the Benadryl cream rather than the oral med if the rash isn't too widespread (I had it all over my face when I got pg w my oldest, so that didn't work). Don't double dose on the Benadryl - so if you use the cream, don't also take the oral med.

That's really all I've used - I used hydrocortisone while not pg, even though I think it's okay.

I'm rashy normally and it sucks.

  • You have PUPPPs :(. And at only 16 weeks? That is bad news, mama :(. There is very little you can do for it. Everyone recommends the pine tar soap; I didn't get any relief from it, but some do. I was on a prescription steroid cream that did nothing, and my doctor gave me a five day taper of oral prednisone that also did nothing. Sarna lotion helped a little to dull the itching when it was really bad and I couldn't sleep, but that was about it.

This is what I'm afraid of. :( I'm really hoping that once I recover from this virus, my body will be strong enough to fight this off. Ugh.

  • PUPPPS. I had Cholestasis and they thought I'd have PUPPPS but I didn't have a rash. I KNOW how bad that itching is. They'll probably do liver enzyme checks Just in case. OMG I'm so sorry. It's pure hell.

So, I did a lot of online research yesterday and went out and bought oatmeal bath, cetaphil cleanser and lotion, more calamine lotion, more Benadryl, and V8 juice. Wasn't able to get grandpas soap last night. Anyway, used pretty much all those things last night and woke up and it's so much better! Way less itch and the rash on my belly is all dried out and almost scaby. It hasn't spread to any new areas since yesterday. I'm going to keep using these things and hope that it keeps improving. My OB called this morning but I missed the call and now I can't get back through bc it's Monday morning... Ugh. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Between this and the stomach virus it's been rough!!!!
  • Poor thing. I'm sorry. You do need to get in to see your Dr. soon though :(
