At first I thought it would be a waste bc they can't do deep tissue (which I usually get when I go every year or other year), but it was sooooo relaxing and I feel great! They were gentle, but I loved it! Plus, I got out of the house alone without a lunch bag of snacks, sippy and diaper bag!
Totally worth it! I have a monthly membership to a place and it's been such a relief to all the stiffness and aches I've been having. Plus it's 55 min of "me time" which I love.
Yesterday, I received a gift certificate from my crazy aunt for a 70 minute prenatal massage. Nice gesture, but I don't know what to do with it. I can't really have my back rubbed because my kidneys are all messed up. I don't like my belly touched. So is she supposed to rub my shoulders and legs for over an hour?
Not to mention that it takes several weeks to get an appt with this particular LMT, so I can't even guarantee that I'll still be pregnant. Now I feel like I have to call my doctor to find out if I can even have a massage.
@peanutmuse - my massage didn't include any touching of the belly at all, it was all my back, shoulders, legs, feet, arms, hands and neck. You could probably have the massage therapist avoid your lower back because of the kidneys if your doc gives you the green light.
@KaitiMac -- during the two prenatal massages that I have had, I specifically told them not to touch my belly, so I know that that is an option. I just mentioned that because some people like it, and I most definitely do not, haha.
I guess my point is that it's a strange gift to give a person on bed rest, even if it's modified bed rest. With all of the pain that I've been in, I really don't like to be touched at all. It was a nice gesture, but I probably won't use it. I'm hoping I can trade it for a different kind of massage after the baby is born.
@peanutmuse you shouldn't have any problem exchanging it. My mum does it all the time when my SIL buys her massage vouchers. She hates getting them so she swaps them for other treatments so she doesn't hurt SIL's feelings. Prenatal massages are the best thing since sliced bread. I go once a month and it's soooo good to be able to lie face down for a while. Plus they do a fantastic job and get surprisingly deep.
Before I was pregnant I got a membership to Massage Envy and its been sooooo helpful especially now. I nap all the time, but there's nothing more relaxing than being massaged and drifting in/out of consciousness. The only thing I don't like is that my first massage during my 1st tri they started me lying face down in a cushion cut out which I wasn't too fond of, but since then I do them on my side. I do miss deep tissue massages!!!!
OMG. I thought this post title said "perineal" massage. I just learned about that in childbirth class and no thank you to that!
Haha. I have no use for them since I'm a RCSer. Our birthing class instructor last time recommended H's do it. Mine looked at me like he was just shot in the ass.
Thanks for the confirmation! I just mentioned this to MH and minutes later when I checked my email, I saw a few Groupon offers for massages in my area. Win/win ;;)
I got a gift certificate to one as an early Christmas gift but had no idea that massaging the belly was even an option, so I'm glad people posted about this so I can make it clear the belly is off limits! My sore everything else should keep them busy for the 50 minutes!!

It would have been nice two months ago, though.
