We our doing the NT scan. We are older and hubby has Downs in his family. Not really worried however.
We will not terminate. We just want a heads up in case. His nephew had many issues when born so this way we might be able to prepare and Drs can know just in case.
Yes- I just want to be prepared! Just how I wouldn't terminate the pregnancy based on gender- but I still want to know so I can prepare! 2 of my cousins are developmentally disabled and it's never too early to start getting a plan together for how to best care for a special needs kid IMO. Also- I never thought it would make me worried to have the test like some moms- I worry about a MMC and so just to see a glimpse of baby offers me endless reassurance! And like I said- I'm a planner so I would worry if I didn't have it done that there might be an issue with the baby I'm not prepared to address from day 1.
I am right w you. I also had a Mmc so just being able to see LO again calms me down.
Me (40) DH (42).......Married 7/1/11......TTC 12/2013.......BFP #1 12/30/12........EDD 9/8/13
Spotting,clot 2/15/13 all ok......2/21/13 no heartbeat 11 w 4 d missed miscarriage........2/22/13 DnC
Only the quad screen is offered at my office. They said I could have an elective NT scan, but I would need a referral to another doctor. I'm fine with just the quad screen.
For DS we did the quad screen because of a family history of Down Syndrome. This time we did the NT and quad screen because they are also checking for issues with the cord and placenta.
I just had mine done and to be honest, I just wanted to see my lil one on an ultrasound! Everything looked great though. They did want me to do an additional test for Downs Syndrome, which I declined.
Decided not to either. Not going to abort either way. Dr said these can lead to false positives and more unnecessary testing too. I will take what god gives me. Plus added stress over something I can not and could not control is not good for baby either. I would have been researching the crap and got myself all kinds of worked up.
That's just me. I understand why some do and others don't. This is the great thing. There are all kinds of options.
just because someone has it done doesn't mean they would chose to end the pregnancy because if the result of the test. I am quite surprised by how many people in this thread said "well I wouldn't abort so I didn't get it." I would encourage you to use other words when you speak to your pregnant friends in the future. ...
One more thing, a few people said that they have no risk or their doctor said that they have no risk factors. Unfortunately genetic mutations are completely possible and have nothing to do with your family history. I have a rare form of dwarfism that only 300 in the world have been diagnosed with. It does not run in my family and was a genetic mutation.
Thank you. Both of these things have been really pissing me off, actually, because they are grounded in pure ignorance. Thank you for pointing it out in a much more polite way than I would have.
We didn't/are not doing it. My only regret about it is I REALLY want to see LO at 12 weeks. Last time we saw LO was at 9 weeks and LO looked like a bean lol I really want to see legal, arms, head etc.
