The heartburn has gotten brutal. The indigestion and pain that comes with it is worse.
I've had GERD and related problems for years. I finally had a nutritionist last year suggest I had too little stomach acid and I had been taking hydrochloric acid with meals, which took care of the heartburn. I stopped taking it about 4 months ago and hadn't had heartburn or indigestion until the past few weeks.
I've tried tums, pepcid, zantac...they don't work. I've also tried pregnancy heartburn tea, ginger, chewing gum, drinking milk, not laying down within 3 hours of meals, eating small meals, and not drinking soda.
I've also had an increase in anxiety, so now I'm worried about some studies finding a correlation between acid reducing drugs and proton pump inhibitors and allergies and asthma in children. I would like to avoid medication and manage the symptoms as naturally as possible, but I don't know what else to do.
Any advice?
