1st Trimester

Possible due date off!

This is my second pregnancy. With my first, I had light implantation bleeding. This past time, I had been having predicable 27-28day cycles. The first month we TTC I got what I thought was my period, but it was on day 26. It was noticeably lighter than my regular periods but way too heavy to be implantation bleeding. I think I even took a test on the last day and got a negative. However, I got nauseous, but chocked it up as food poisoning. Then, the next month we knew we conceived because I got positive pregnancy tests. Well, today we met with our midwife. I'm supposed to be 9weeks and 5 days. I told her my situation and she said she would try to find a heartbeat on the Doppler. She said that if I really was under 10 weeks she probably would not pick up the heartbeat. Well, she picked up a heartbeat loud and clear. She also did a pelvic exam and said that my uterus felt a tad large for 9 weeks. However, she did not use the tape measure to measure my belly. I wish she would have but I guess we both forgot. She highly recommended that we get a dating ultrasound. Right now we are self-pay so I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. I think it's very important to nail down a date, but is it really that possible to be a month farther along? Has this happened to anyone?

Re: Possible due date off!

  • If you didn't test for sure last month then it is possible.

I guess its up to you to determine how important it is to nail down a date right now. Will you get an anatomy scan? Is that covered? If I was self pay I'd probably do as few u/s as possible. Will you have insurance coverage in January? If so I would wait until then, but that's just me. I don't think a few weeks will make a huge difference.

  • Measuring tape won't tell you much until you are over 20 wks. And then it's a guesstimate anyway.

If you are self pay, most states have public assistance program that you need to apply for. And start thinking about how your LO is going to be insured. How you are going to pay for having this baby and for raising the baby.

That's more important than a "due date," which itself is only an estimate as well.
