Not WMR - bassinets

Hello, I am 32 weeks with DD and looking for a bassinet for her first couple of months. Maybe you girls can help me because I'm just not finding one I like. I am not into characters, I want one a little more elegant looking. But, I also don't want the real frilly look. I can't seem to find anything in between. I do like the pique bedding and wicker bassinet from pottery barn but it is very expensive and the bedding is a crib bumper which I'm not fond of. Ok, get shopping!! Thanks!

Re: Not WMR - bassinets

  • we had a very beautiful bassinet that my aunt gave us and i was so excited to use it but DS would not sleep in it. he wound up sleeping in the rock n play sleeping for the first 3 mos, and then slept in the bassinet for 1 month before we moved him to his crib. just something to keep in mind! alot of babies sleep in the rock and play.

  • We had the wicker bassinet from pottery barn - we borrowed it from my SIL.  That bassinett has been used for 4 babies now, and is still in fantastic shape (because it's only used for ~3 months).  Do you have a friend or relative you can just borrow one from? They're a lot of money for something that's used for such a short amount of time.

However, if we have a second, I'm going to skip the bassinet and buy the arms reach cosleeper.  Even with the bassinet next to the bed, I still had to sit up to be able to pick her up - I want to be able to just roll over and slide the baby over to nurse.  Also, I imagine our first will still be spending the occasional night in bed with us, so I think the arms reach is pretty much required in order to safely cosleep.

  • Thanks everyone! My son is only 16 months old and I received a bassinet for him as a shower gift but by the time he was about 2 months old, it had ripped and was unusable. At that point I returned it and put him in his crib in his nursery. I agree it's silly to spend a lot of money on this when it is only used a couple of months. I will look into the rock n play. We don't plan to co-sleep, and this is likely our last child so that may be a good bet. I do have a pack n play but DS still uses it and it just doesn't look cozy for a newborn for every night! Thanks again!
  • Honestly skip the bassinet and just get a rock n play, money much better spent. Neither of my kids really liked the bassinet and they outgrew it super fast. DS slept in the RnP for 5 months and slept great! Not the answer you were looking for, but I know what I'm talking about.

  • Thanks @jf198400! ....off to google rock n play...
  • There are a bunch of different rock n plays. Recommendations?
  • I got mine from a friend who was done with it, pretty sure it's a basic model, no bells and whistles. Worked great, personally I'd go with whatever the cheapest model is.

  • We had the rock n play that looked like a lamb. It was awesome. DD slept in it the first 6 weeks and then still used it for naps until she started almost climbing out. Best buy we made, by far.

This. It's genius.  I never had a bassinet.  DS slept in his bouncer or in the bed with us, and DD slept in the PNP in our room until I discovered the rock-n-play.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
