Ice to numb

I'm reading mixed reviews about using ice to numb the injection site. I'm also reading it depends on the shot. Thoughts?

I use it for my pio shots and it helps.

My RE office said absolutely not to do this because it messes up how your body absorbs the medication.

Definitely helped with the PIO. I did it without ice the first time, and I highly regretted it afterwards!

I've never used ice on any of my shots. They never hurt enough for me to bother trying.

My clinic says its fine and in fact suggested it. All my numbers were fine...so who knows. If my numbers weren't good I probably would've stopped or if my clinic said not to, then I wouldn't have. I would just go by what your clinic tells you.

I mentioned it to my nurse yesterday and she said that they advise against using ice, but didn't give a reason why.

You'll get mixed answers. I asked before I started icing, both here and at my RE's office. Every RE will give you different advice. I'm glad that mine said to ice because the one time I decided to forgo icing, there was a HUGE difference and I never skipped it again. I only iced for about 5 minutes before the injection. When the clinic checked my progesterone numbers, they were always great (above 40 and I wasn't even pregnant) so icing didn't hurt my body with absorbing the med. And, I never got the lumps that women are worried about either. I skipped heating after, but had DH rub the site with a tennis ball for a couple of minutes to move the med around. I'm not sure if it helped, but it's what we were told to do.

I iced with my medications for the IVF cycle but do not use ice for my PIO shots. I sit on a heating pad on the side were doing for a few minutes then my DH rubs really hard in circular motion then I go back to sitting on the heating pad for a few minutes. I was told by rma to not use ice for PIO shots bc it makes it clot and that heat helps make the progestrone flow and absorb without clotting.

My clinic also said not to ice because it can mess with absorption.

I did the same as @Irishlove16. Iced everything but PIO. Since it is oil it will thicken up as soon as it gets cold. My RE told me to warm the injection sure first and put the drawn meds next to my skin for 5 minutes before injecting.

I used ice prior to my shot. It never caused problems for me. However, I did put the oil in my bra before using it.
