Infertility & Tricare ?

Hey all, I into'd along time ago so i'll bring you all back up to speed...

DH is USMC, we are stationed in Camp Lejeune... we have 1 DD who is 6 years old. - We are Tricare Prime

We have been ttc for over a year now, I have been seeing an OB at naval for the entire process. I have a history of losses and we lost a lil one in june, and a suspected loss this past cycle. We have gone through the fertility work up's as far as blood work, and I've had an SIS done. (The only thing my husband had done was a blood test to check chromosomes). So far I've been DX with unexplained second infertility and they cannot find a reason for the redcurrant losses.

I genuinely love my OB, she really takes the time to be a great DR. However, I think I've went as far as I can with her and I'm looking into what's next. So here are my questions...

1.)  I would like to see an RE, how do I go about making that happen?

2.)  In the event I need IUI or IVF, should I expect to pay OOP, or will Tricare cover some or all of these procedures?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Infertility & Tricare ?

  • You need to ask for a referral to an re from your pcm. There are a ton of things they can do for you before iui or ivf but for the most part once you go to iui or ivf tricare stops paying. That being said there are a lot of mtfs that do iui and ivf for a discounted price. Good luck !

  • I haven't started testing, yet, but I got a lot of good answers on this thread. https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12135280/tricare-and-testing-advice-please#latest I live in a place that has an MTF that already has a RE/Infertility clinic, and I know that I can be referred there by a GYN at the GYN clinic there. The general consensus is that Tricare will cover testing and treatment/meds for TI (timed intercourse) cycles. Once you get into IUI or IVF they won't cover those things, even if you had been using them and they were covered for TI (example, because that sentence was hard to follow: they will cover, say Clomid and all testing/ultrasounds involved with it, if you are just timing intercourse on your own/with your doc. If you have to do Clomid with an IUI, even if they covered the ultrasounds/testing before, they won't cover it). PP is right that a lot of MTFs do offer rates that are discounted for IUI and IVF as well.
