My kid doesn't understand NO

I swear he doesn't get it. He laughs and thinks its a fun game when he's told no. I say it stern, give him "the look" take him away from it if it's dangerous and even say "danger" when I do it but he laughs and goes right back to it like its a game! Help! Why doesn't he equate no with don't do this? He doesn't even throw a fit because it's like he doesn't get it:(

Re: My kid doesn't understand NO

  • LO totally knows what it means but she pushes with me and her Daddy.   With me, I can actually tell her to look at Mommy and she must think it is serious but it works and then I tell her no.   She just plays SO  . . . . he is never going to learn.

  • DD is the same way. To her "no" means "do it more and laugh at us as we say it." It's a stage. Hopefully a short one :)

  • DD is kind of the opposite - she absolutely hates to be told no.  If she's tired or something, it can even cause her to burst into tears.

  • DS does the exact same thing. I just keep saying no and stopping him from what he is doing and redirecting him.....eventually he will get it. I hope.

  • My 'no' is usually followed by 'time out?' so she is starting to put the two together.

she has started saying 'oh no' and 'no' and it's pretty darn cute...
