How to Cope with OB appointment/waiting room

I kept my first OB appointment as recommended by doctor. It would be my first ultra-sound, first check of baby, but sadly I wont get that this visit. It has been a few weeks from my MC and I am feeling physically and emotionally better, but I have an appointment for Tuesday which is tomorrow and I am starting to dread sitting in the waiting room. How did you manage the OB waiting room?

Re: How to Cope with OB appointment/waiting room

  • Thank you Mrs. Deo,

I think I will bring music and a magazine--I don't want to be rude, but I certainly don't want to be social tomorrow.

  • I completely understand. The Monday after the Wednesday that they told us there was no heartbeat, I had to go in for another visit to confirm, and potentially schedule the D&E. I sat down in the waiting room with my husband, looked up to see this beautiful pregnant lady in front of me, and lasted exactly 5 seconds before I started crying. They called me up to the front desk to sign me in, and when they saw how upset I was, they offered to let me sit in a private room. That was truly life saving, as I sat in there and really cried for a while. If you let the front desk know when you arrive that the waiting room might be difficult for you, they will hopefully do their best to accommodate you.

  • Ugh, I know the feeling. I had an U/S that showed a BO and they had me go back to the waiting room until the DR called me back and as I was sitting there, this young couple walks out, super happy holding their U/S pic and I could clearly see the profile pic. The U/S tech was rude to me and it tore my heart apart. The office I go to is an OB/GYN and there is a specialist there that does vaginal rejuvenation surgery lol. So there was a bunch of women...young, old, middle aged, pregnant and me. It made is a lot easier seeing the older ones there and I did not feel like everyone knew I was there for a BO/MC. My mom went with me and she knew it was gonna be hard, so we were joking around (and trying to guess which lady was there for vagina plastic surgery). ** I don't make fun of people, but joking with my mom and telling her she should look into it did distract me**

I really hope you wait isn't long and they treat you with kindness and respect. Good luck!

  • It is difficult to sit in the waiting room. I try to stay occupied. And also remind myself that I will hopefully be one of those happy pregnant women eventually. The emotions are so raw at the moment, it's hard not to be upset. I hope your appointment goes well. Take a book or a magazine. Hugs!
  • @glow360 how did your appt go?

  • I was in there a few days later to see TONS of pregnant women. I held it together as best I could. I even looked over at one point to actually see that baby moving in a lady's belly, but that was when I lost it. I had to ask if I could wait elsewhere and then let me in the room sooner. Not that I am unhappy for these women, it's just hard to see what I SHOULD have knowing it's gone. T & P's for you!
