Dr Appointment Schedules?

I've noticed that there's a big variety in the timing of everyone's first doctor appointment and the testing their doctor has ordered.  For example, I just had one beta to confirm pregnancy and won't see my doctor until 9 weeks.  I did have some early cramping and was suprised he didn't want to do another beta or have me come in.  What's been the norm for everyone else?

Re: Dr Appointment Schedules?

  • With my daughter I had my first appt around 8 weeks. With this baby (different doctor) I will be going in around a little after 9 weeks.

  • For mine it was an intake appointment with a nurse first (after positive HPT) with general info/medical history and urine test to confirm. After that, only one appointment (plus any testing like NT, CF, etc) per month till mid 2nd tri or the 20wk a/s unless you have issues that come up before then. No betas or early u/s unless there's a history of loss or a question about the EDD.

  • I had my first appt at 5 weeks. We thought we were two weeks ahead of that but miscalculated due to irregular cycles. We had another appt at 7 weeks to make sure baby was progressing normally. From there on out, I have a appt every 4 weeks.

  • With my daughter I did not have an appointment until 9 weeks and at that one I had an u/s, blood work, etc.  With this pregnancy I am going to a different doctor (we moved to another state) and I had my first appointment today at approx 5 weeks.  This practice has you do an intake appointment with a nurse first, so I did that, peed in a cup and had blood work done.  I will go back in 4 weeks for an ultrasound and meet with the doctor.

  • I had two betas drawn with the RE and then had my first OB appt around 7 weeks.  Since then, I just go in every four weeks.  I also had a separate appt for my NT scan.
  • I didnt even take a test til i was 8 weeks along (unknowing i was that far along).  went in right away for my confirmation test, then dr scheduled a confirmation u/s at 10 weeks.

  • My doctor doesn't see you until at least 8 weeks. First appointment is with a nurse. Not sure exactly what they'll do as far as tests at that point. But I guess they go over what to do, what to expect with the pregnancy, etc. (more of a teaching appointment I guess -- I kinda feel like they should do this earlier than 8 weeks, but whatever....) Then a day or 2 later you have an appointment with the OB. I asked if they'd do an ultrasound at that appointment, and the receptionist said yes. So I go in Dec 10th to meet with the nurse and then Dec 12th for the OB appointment. I'll be 9 weeks on Dec 12th.
  • my doctor wouldn't even test me to see if I was pregnant I showed her the stick with the very faint second line and she said that's good enough for me, I was 4W something at that point and they asked me a couple of questions and took my weight and blood pressure and that was it. She scheduled me at 6W5D but we had to go in early at 6W due to my husband being away the following week and she didn't test me for anything, she took my weight, BP, and we did a transvaginal u/s we only saw a sac and a yolk at the time and she said all seems ok, my second appointment is today to look for heartbeat fatal pole cause last time's u/s was a little scary to me

DD: Had to pee in cup, pay $25 and get pregancy confirmed :( Then had first doc appointment at 7wks (but I had no period so they had no idea how far along I was, they prefer 8wks) I heard heart beat, had internal exam, ultrasound for dating, lots of bloodwork.

LO2: Will have doc appointment at 10wks (same doc, they like 8-10wk) they didn't ask if I'd had it confirmed by doc so I feel that they'll confirm at this appointment while doing everything else. I  assume again heart beat, internal, u/s, and bloodwork again.

This is fine by me, less appointments less money lol Of course I want to see my baby but if they bring me in at 5/6 wks to just take blood pressure, weight it's a waste of time/money/etc. IMO (obviously baring other health concerns)

  • My first appt is at 12wks to see Dr for u/s. The rest will be with nurse midwife.
  • My office will see you at 8-10 weeks with your first pregnancy with no history of problems. No tests or betas. Still have a 3 week wait and scheduled it 2 weeks ago.

  • My Dr scheduled my first appt when I'll be 12 weeks.... I wish it was sooner but I guess I just have to deal with it! I'm really hoping to get an ultrasound but I have a feeling that I won't. I used this Dr one time for NY first pregnancy and he didn't have me do an ultrasound at the first appt.... I'm so anxious to see my lo!!! This never ending waiting game in pregnancy sucks! Lol
  • For my first pregnancy, they had me come in as soon as I had a positive home test and they checked my hormone levels. This was an OB practice that also does a lot of work with couples experiencing infertility.

This time around, I'm with a midwife group that scheduled my first appointment for 9 weeks. I pressed for some blood work earlier than that and got it but they still haven't seen me.
