Re: UO

  • @chunkymonkeylvr I'm also not a huge fan of that word but I am still a huge fan of you!

I can't stand when someone types or says "god damn"  Like it makes my heart hurt.  In real life I correct them, because they are people in my real life and I really hate to hear it.  On the board in my mind I just say GD.  I don't think anyone is trying to offend me or others.  It is a word.

I guess I am just irritated that people act like I have killed kittens because I find it crazy (use to be used to describe someone with a mental illness that has been turned into a main stream word.) to change how people talk to appease a few,  it is how society has ALWAYS worked.    Right or wrong it is what it is.

I am kind of over this because it has gone from discussing using words in society to more a less "poor chunky she has no morals."  I do my damnedest on this thread to never take it away from the debate aspect of the topic.  It is UO thread for a reason, I don't play the game to throw something out there to back pedal because I have a UO.  If you are someone who truly doesn't like me now because I defended the word "grammar nazi"  or using the word about being a "nazi checking your child's milestones"  and now you judge me, I don't know what to say to that other than chuckle to myself  FFS.

And yes I thought about this a lot last night, now to get my coffee.

ETA:  rewording for clarification as well as to point out that I wasn't meaning this at just the OP in my quote tree.
I totally agree that that's how the world works. I just don't think that's a reasonable justification for willfully bein on the hurtful side of this question. The world is full of violence, misogyny, hate crimes etc etc etc but we still all have the option to CHOOSE not to be violent, misogynistic, hateful etc etc.

I never said, nor do I believe, that you have no morals or that you killed kittens!

This, @chunkymonkeylvr I always like hearing ( still do) your opinion, which is why the post made me sad.. I don't think you are moral-less

@chunkymonkeylvr, I don't think you have no morals and I never said I don't like you because of it. It does bother me; it truly does and this is not the first time I've called someone out on this board for it. Early on, I called meimsx out and I know there has been at least one other time, as well. It got mentioned here because I've seen others besides you using it a lot lately. I call people out on FB for it and my friends and family in real life.

Yes, it bothers me that much and it makes me sad that you chose to defend your use of the word as meaningless when it very much isn't meaningless, but it doesn't make me think you have no morals.

    Edit: Word choice
True story. She totally did. MrsErinH and I didn't get along. We made up obviously but she did call me out and I completely changed my opinion on the use of the word. I hadn't thought about it the way Ncchnat had so it was purely just a duh moment for me. I haven't used it in that context ever again.

If I knew you in real life and I knew that it bothered you yes I would honestly make an effort to never use that word around you.  Because I do believe in not being a total prick.  In general though no I am not going to cut words out of my vocabulary because it "might" be offensive to someone whom I may nor may not know.

Two people in this thread alone have told you that they find it personally offensive. So you are fine being a total prick to people you don't know?
My quick response: yes I have no problem with it. I think it is incredibly PC to not use the word grammar nazi because of the holocaust. It is what it is.

This makes me sad, I keep typing and deleting.. My dh's grandfather escaped the holocaust and so many loved ones didn't. I also worked with a non profit that hosted a group of holocaust survivors weekly, they are so happy to be alive, great people, upbeat about life. However, say the word nazi in front of them, in ANY context, and the pain in their eyes is enough to know that word is not to be taken lightly .

I haven't commented yet, however, I have had this as my UO and have called people out for using the word, on this board and many others in the past. I find it extremely offensive. I'm not going to argue with anyone, but if you want people, even "internet strangers" to be mindful of your feelings, be mindful of theirs.
