I wanted to share our announcement for my family from my last pregnancy. It was a huge hit and could easily be edited to reflect a different family. When I got the idea of rewriting this poem, I had a really hard time finding any examples of moms that had done it. It was so much fun as the family slowly caught onto the surprise! It's one of my fondest memories.
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, except a new little mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
Though it seems one is missing, next year will be there.
The Three C's were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of tiny feet danced in their heads.
While Gramzy wore her PJs , and Sampa drank his wine,
We'd all settle down from our Christmas Eve time.
When out of the bathroom there arose such a clatter,
Siblings sprang from the couch to see what was the matter.
And sisters know what's going on in a flash,
They run out to share the news in a dash.
Though it's too early to be starting to show,
There is definitely something going on below.
When, what to everyone's ears do they hear?
In 9 months a bundle of joy shall appear!
The family's excitement is lively and quick,
They start shouting names for the family to pick.
Rapid as lightening, the ideas they came,
And they brainstormed, and disagreed, and made lists of names!
Not Lily! nor, Wendy! Or, Chloe or Betty!
Not, Marcus! Nor, Tommy! Or Jasper or Freddy!
To the top of the list! Or I don't like it at all!
If Cannon could pick, he would probably choose "Ball".
With so much happening week after week,
By late spring-time you'll be sure to see,
A slightly broad face and a little round belly.
By the end of the summer, there'll be lots of yelling!
She'll be chubby and plump, a sweet little Mama,
But don't laugh when you see her, or you'll create drama!
Aaron's afraid by August she'll have shaved her head,
So help keep her cool and he'll have nothing to dread.
He'll learn to speak not a word, and go straight to his work,
He'll man the wood oven, and not be a jerk.
Between keeping her happy and all those baby things to buy,
I hope when you see him you take pity on the guy!
By the end of August it will all be worth it,
Away they'll go to the midwife to birth it.
And you'll hear Nora exclaim to Aaron and Wife,
"Happy Birthday sweet baby! And to you all a good life!"
Re: If you're breaking the news around Christmas...
Great poem.
We will be announcing to our Facebook friends on Christmas day. Our current plan is to post a pic of our stockings, one with my name, one for DH, one for DD, and a small one that will say baby + our last name. The message to go along with it will be something like " Santa will be bringing a special gift in June 2014." Or something like that.
