Flying

Who has flown recently with baby?? Now that these little chitlins of ours are BUSY and moble I'm terrified of flying. To avoid an 8 hr drive with Coop we are flying. Just the two of us. Any suggestions? She's never flown. I know a sippy cup for ears popping but are there any other helpful hints that could make this less painful?!

Re: Flying

  • Does benadryl make her sleepy? If so I would give her some. Otherwise next time I fly I'm lugging the carseat and just paying for her. It's the only other way I can think of to keep her still.

  • We did it a few weeks ago and I won't lie, it wasn't pleasant. Luckily we got the first row both ways and that helped. Bring LOTS of snacks, books, maybe an ipad or kindle with the ability to play videos. Good luck!

  • Does she like stickers? A sticker book might be good!

  • Just did and bought our guy his own seat and brought his car seat. Couldn't imagine him on my lap still for 3 hours. Best money Ive spent in awhile. Bring lots of food and new toys. Good luck!

  • I did it last month by myself with Ava and I wrote an entire blog post about it. Here is the link, hopefully some tips in there will help! Good luck :)

  • I've also heard of getting the window cling stickers and letting them put them up and pull them off. I think the jelly ones work the best for this :)
  • I have flown with DD a lot.  I have to say, it was easier the first time I flew with her when she was 3.5 months and just slept on the flight.  I flew earlier this month with her.

If you can schedule your flight at nap time ...or a time when they are likely to sleep, it's easier.  Either way, take advantage of the play areas in the airports and let them run around and burn off some energy.  Bring a couple new toys to keep them interested on the flight as well as snacks and drinks.
