I was thinking of getting the FP seahorse soother to help M with napping in the crib. I read some reviews on Amazon that were off-putting; specifically that the seahorse has a strong chemical smell that doesn't go away, and that the battery compartment smokes! Just looking for some other reviews from my May mamas.
I'm glad you posted this because I'm trying to decide between the FP Seahorse and the Playskool Glow Worm for LO for a Christmas gift. I hadn't read the reviews so I had no idea about those issues!
I have the seahorse! No smell or smoke, but it doesn't soothe DD like it used to. We used it when she was a newborn to help her sleep and it was a miracle then. Now, when she's overtired nothing helps with her naps.
*Comes out of lurking* I have the seahorse and it smells horrible. I've tried washing it and it still smells. Never had a problem with the battery though.
We have the GloWorm and C loves it. Some nights he doesn't need it, but other nights it calms him right down. He likes to pat its face. . We just changed the batteries this week, but have had it since the beginning of June. Unfortunately, I can now hum the entire string of songs that the GloWorm plays from memory.
So I might be stupid (it happens a lot, sorry about that), but is the glow worm and the seahorse a toy that they snuggle with while they're sleeping? I thought we weren't supposed to have anything at all in their cribs until they're like a year old...

My hope is that I can give it to her while she's in the crib and it will help her fall asleep, and then I will remove it from the crib. You're not stupid, you're right about the one year thing We don't have bumpers or anything else in her crib.

This is my plan too. This is what I do right now with her "lovey" (small blanket with puppy head). I take it once she falls asleep. I was also kind of hoping the seahorse/glow worm might help her fall asleep when I want her to nap while we are out visiting. She loves her FP aquarium but I can't take it everywhere haha
C loves her gloworm!! She falls asleep "talking@ to it and stroking it's face. Sometimes even when it's not on she will reach out and touch it's face. But that's my two cents.
We have the seahorse. I haven't noticed any smell or anything.
I don't use it in the crib though. If you really want something that soothes get the Baby Einstein ocean soother aquarium. That thing is magic. More money but worth it and more. I turn it on and LO knows its sleepy time. It would soothe me too I think.

I second the ocean soother aquarium. S has it attached to her crib and she falls asleep to it every night.
@jayro10 - funny thing, I took S to her 6 month appt today, and on the informational sheet the pedi gives us, it said that sometimes a toy or something soft can be a good thing to give them when they're falling asleep at this age because they start to get separation anxiety and if they have something to hug/snuggle with it helps them. I would probably take it away though, like you guys, when she falls asleep.
Lillian has the sea horse and she really loves it. I put it in the Corner of the crib above her head and turn it on as she goes to sleep. She usually tilts her head up to look at it and falls asleep as she stares at it.
Edited because I wrote glow worm instead of seahorse. ((Long day!!)) There is no smell and it doesn't smoke.
L sleeps with the seahorse. No smell or problems with it. I dont worry about leaving it in her crib because there are no loose or fluffy parts. I just wish it played longer than 5 minutes!

This is why I haven't used the seahorse as a soother. It doesn't play very long.

Same thoughts. We have the seahorse for M, but I wish it played longer.
