Independent toddler?

My ds is a pretty independent toddler. He could care less when it comes to interacting and playing with other toddlers. Everyone says it is good that he is so independent. He loves to do his own thing, most of the time. He is at home with me all day and maybe a couple times a week, we go over to my sisters house or someplace. She has a 2.5 year old (boy), 4.5 year old (girl) and 9 year old (girl). Her neighbor has a little girl that is 2 months older than my son, she seems to be the same way.

Anyone else have a pretty independent toddler right now?

  • He is starting to change. He used to take an interest in other kids, just watching what they were doing from a distance, but never approaching. Now he's starting to go to up to them and hand them things, pat their hands, attemp to take their toys, etc.

Yes, this is what ds does. He has more of an interest though in playing by himself.

  • I watch two other one year old boys all day, and all three of them ignore me pretty much all day. The only time they want me is when someone steals a toy they were playing with. They do like when I read stories and make silly noises and when we have dance parties.
Well, yeah my ds ignores me a little throughout the day too. I still don't know if he would play with other kids though.

  • Amir does great playing with other kids and when we're at home he plays by himself really well.

  • DD does both- she has her days- some days at the park she goes right up to kids and parents and says hi and waves. Other days she wants to climb the steps and go down the slide all by  herself.
  • Yes, very.  She likes to interact and play around older kids but is happy by herself.
