This is tough... Organ donating and death row...

What say parenting?
It's tough. I am all for organ donating but if this guy raped and killed my kid, him being alive one more second would make me sick.

Should death row inmates be allowed to donate? Couldn't there be something in place like they have to sign up to be a donor by Xdate, like inmate can't wait till last minute and decide to donate just to postpone execution. ...would anyone say they don't even want his organ's?

  • I don't have a problem with it. It's not like the heart or liver or eyes were the reason someone killed or raped or did any other crime that constituted a Death Row stay.  I agree there should be a deadline to offer the organs up, though.

  • I'm with @cinemagoddess I don't see an issue with it. If their death can save another life, I'm all for it. I don't think it should be used as a stalling tactic though.

  • Yes, they should be allowed to donate.  That's their chance to make their life count for something.

  • Of course they should be allowed to donate. They are still humans with working organs that can help others.

  • As a rational and a skeptic, I see no problem with this, especially since I know of people on the organ donor wait list. Eyes are a little weirder, but your kidneys or liver or spleen are not "you", they are meat.

Organ donation as a stall tactic for death row is troubling, but the rule of law requires we as a society move in a slow and rational fashion, and in cases where there is no precedent more time and discussion is required.
