3rd Trimester

OB is stressing me out..

For the most part, I really like my OB.  She's the only dr in her practice and every single person who works in her office is awesome.  She's also super quick to get me in and out every appointment.

But, I've been nauseous this whole pregnancy.  For the past few months, I typically only throw up once every couple of weeks but I feel sick frequently and dry heave a lot.  Early in my 2nd tri, she sent me to a GI specialist just to make sure nothing else was wrong, and it was fine.

So she basically keeps telling me that it's pretty rare to be this nauseous the entire pregnancy and that I may have issues afterwards.  I asked her, though, if I wasn't sick before the pregnancy, then should it go away after birth and she said yes..but she continues to act like it's so crazy that I feel like this.

For you STMs that had nausea the whole pregnancy, did it all go away after pregnancy?

Re: OB is stressing me out..

  • My nausea and vomiting went away at 20 weeks with my first, but I am still sick with this pregnancy. My vomiting is gone but I pretty much feel nauseous every day and still dry heave. I don't think it's really that uncommon and I'm surprised that your OB is acting like it's so unbelievable. For other women that have had it their whole pregnancy, I have heard that it pretty much goes away instantaneously after birth, so I'm hoping that's that case with me...and you! Good luck!

  • I was lucky enough to not have it the entire pregnancy but all of my friends who did have it their ENTIRE pregnancy (bless their hearts)--it absolutely went away after birth.  So hang in there!!!

This sounds insane--but when I had horrible morning sickness with my first --it lasted about 4 months--I got a tip from this site and it was to have sour patch kids.  Something about the sour.  so I was like WTH...and tried it...and it actually helped for whatever reason.  Temporarily--but helped.

  • Yea I agree, I've heard of many people who were sick the whole time and I also think it's weird she's acting like that.  She did say she's had other patients that were sick the whole time, but that it's rare and sometimes means there is something more wrong..oh well, thanks for all your input!

  • I was sick my entire first pregnancy.  After I delivered it turned out the cause was a malfunctioning gall bladder (not gall stones) and I ended up having to have it removed.
  • I was sick the whole time with my first also. Threw up everyday at least once, and also twice after she was born. After that I was just fine no problems.

  • My mom told me at the beginning of my pregnancy that she was sick throughout her entire pregnancy with my brother (not what I wanted to hear at 6 weeks). There were no long term effects, and it stopped when he was born.

  • I'm in the same boat! I've been on Zofran for the last 7 months because I couldn't keep any food down at all. I hadn't even considered the nausea sticking around after the baby is born... I feel for you! Best of luck.

  • I was sick pretty much throughout my 2nd trim. My OB at first too was less than sympathetic, but  finally got her to prescribe Zofran. It was a godsend. Let my stomach settle enough to have food. Maybe talk to her about that.
Thanks.  I've actually been taking one Zofran daily since about 8 weeks.  It helps a little, but the side effects suck so that's why I don't take more.  My OB didn't hesitate to prescribe the Zofran but she just acts like it's so unusual to be nauseous this far in pregnancy.
