3rd Trimester

bleeding a little after sex.. 31 weeks..

this might be a little to much information, but heres what happned..

my boyfriend and I had sex this afternoon, and I was sore but it was normal for me so I didn't think anything more of it.. I have gone to the bathroom a few times since having sex, and I went again just now and noticed blood in my panties but not were I thought it would be if I was bleeding (it was up front more) and when I flushed there was like a stringy blood thing.. I don't know how to describe it.

Is that normal for after sex? or could that be my mucus plug, if so should I call my OB just in case since I am only 31 weeks.. I know labor could still start a while from now..

  • If you're nervous, please call your OB. It may be nothing, but it could be something that needs to be looked at.

  • Totally call your doc! I have called my midwives many times with thing that ended up being normal but I felt sooo much better after being told that everything was okay. I have had some bleeding after sex too (one of the times I called my midwives)...not much mind you, but I was told that it is completely normal during the second and especially the third trimester. That was the first question they asked me when I told them I had some spotting, "Have you had sex recently". Still, I would check in with your doc just so you don't stress out and so if it is something that needs to be checked out you will know sooner rather than later. Good luck! :)
  • It's probably just a combo of mucus and blood. Your cervix is much more likely to bleed from pregnant sex. It happened to me every time. I would only be concerned if there was a lot of blood.

  • I wouldn't be too concerned unless you have having bad cramping or contractions and there was a lot of blood. When you're pregnant you have more blood flow throughout your body. That and the fact that baby is starting to grow so much and putting more pressure on your cervix, a little bleeding from irritation is normal. Make sure you do at least mention it at your next appointment though! :)
