3rd Trimester

Percentile Big Drop in 4 weeks

Hi. I'm a FTM but high risk so I have had several ultrasounds. Beginning my 30th week I've had them every week, but growth/size is checked every 4 weeks. My baby was in the 95 percentile at week 30....as well as ALL previous ultrasounds. I went yesterday for the 34 week growth and he has dropped the the 56 percentile. I have GD so we were thinking that was one of the reasons he's always measured so big. This seems like a HUGE drop to me. I see my OB tomorrow to discuss results b/c I get the ultrasounds at a different office. Has anyone heard of this? Could the u/s tech not been doing it correctly? Thanks for any input.

Re: Percentile Big Drop in 4 weeks

  • Babies don't grow uniformly throughout pregnancy.  Doesn't sound like any cause for concern.

  • Thank you for the input.
  • Yeah I wouldn't overly stress. I mean your baby could be an early grower and then hit a plateau or something. I would try to relax and discuss with your OB. GL
  • Thank you! The OB didn't seemed concerned. They have scheduled the next growth scan for 3 weeks from now so we can check again.

The percentiles don't matter at all. They are looking for a specific minimum amount of weight gain over a two week period. As long as the baby hits that weight gain, it is fine,

  • Ok. Thanks for the information!!! :)
  • Most of us don't even get any US after 18/20 weeks, so we have no idea what the percentile is, so unless they are worried, I wouldn't worry either!

My little guy is in the 10th percentile at 36 weeks. But since he keeps growing and everything else looks great, it's not a concern. He is just going to be a little bug   :)
