Implantation Bleeding?

Hey everyone, I have never been on one of these forums before, but thought I would give it a try.

We have been trying to get pregnant fro about 3 months now and I have been off BC for about 4 months. I have only been determining ovulation by a calender and length of cycle at this point but we did have sex about 3-4 times during my fertile week.

6dpo I went to the bathroom and wiped and the toliet paper was full of bright red/pink blood, I was not due for my period for another week, so I thought it had come early.  I was out to eat and didn't have a tampon or anything so I used toliet paper (haha), there was no blood on the TP when I went to the bathroom next and for the rest of the evening and into the next day I just had some dark, stringy looking blood when I wiped, then it stopped completely and I haven't had any bleeding since.  I took a test this afternoon (dollar tree) at 10dpo and got a BFN :(  I am not really sure if the bleeding I had would be implantation bleeding or if there was too much and I had a really light period.  Kinda going crazy thinking about it so wanted to get other opinions :)

Re: Implantation Bleeding?

  • Could be that, could not. Test again in a couple of days and use first morning urine. Also, if you don't temp you have no way of knowing if you're 10DPO or 7DPO or what.

Are you temping? Get rid of your calendar app and get Fertility Friend and a basal body thermometer. You really don't know your Ovulation date unless you're temping. Sounds like that wasn't implantation bleeding but maybe a light period.

  • If you're not charting you really don't know when you'd O'd. With that being said, when I had IB it was just a small amount of pinkish brown spotting on the toilet paper. IB can only be diagnosed after you have a +HPT so for now I'd chalk it up to random mid-cycle bleeding.

  • Sounds like normal cycle breakthrough bleeding. Test again in a few days.
  • It could be. Mine was pink and then turned red for an hour or so then went away. I knew I was supposed to implant on 9/6. I had my implantation bleeding 9/7 then got my BFP on 9/11 which was the day AF was supposed to arrive. Now I'm 12 weeks tomorrow!
  • Thanks everyone, I think I will take your advice and do the temping :)

  • The ladies who posted already really know what they are talking about. I have read many of their posts and I like what they have to say regarding charting and temping. I know nothing about that myself.

What I can add to this conversation is my own experience. I myself have had implantation bleeding with both this pregnancy and my previous one. It was really just a little spotting. Not enough to fill toilet paper or the like.

However, when my husband and I were trying to conceive I treated myself as pregnant after the time I should ovulate. If you are not already taking them, you should be on prenatal vitamins. I would cut out the naughty things like smoking and drinking if you indulge in them.
And I would have a good brand of pregnancy test ready for use if you miss the first days of your upcoming period.

However, I have had periods where I spot a few days before, nothing, then it starts up. So when it comes to implantation bleeding, its almost impossible to say that it is that until after you know you are pregnant.

If this turns out to be your period, keep trying!

  • Implantation bleeding is usually not bright red/pink, but brownish. I'm not sure what to tell you, other than go to your doc for a blood test as soon as you can to find out. You would still have another 8 days (at least) before you could take an accurate pregnancy test. Good luck!!

This is awful advice. If OP is legitimately 10 dpo, she absolutely doesn't need to wait 8 more days for an accurate test. Also, there is no reason to go get a blood test. That is not a standard procedure and it won't tell OP anything that a pee stick can't tell her first.

Previous posters have given great suggestions, OP. Good luck!

Might be...sounds a lot like the implantation bleeding I've had before, but really the only way you know is if you get a BFP.
Here's a blog post I wrote about the implantation bleeding I had with this pregnancy.

So wait another day or two and test again. Good luck!

  • I got IB once, on this pregnancy.  I dont really know how mant dpo I was because my cycles have been all messed up since my last baby (1 year old).  It is really hard for any of us to say, and somehave more bleeding than others.  BTW I didnt get a BFP until about 13/14 dpo ( I think).  It was a week after missed period that I got my positive.  You never know! Good luck hun!
  • Just wanted to update everyone that I did end up getting a BFP!  I had bleeding again starting at 9dpo, thought it was AF, but never got very heavy like it usually does so I took a test and got a faint  positive.  Got a BFP on 11dpo and am a little over 5 weeks now :)

Thanks for all of your advice!!!!!
