Sore Throat

I hate going to the doctor for a cold - it's dumb and there is nothing they can do.  My stuffy/runny nose is wrapping up, but my throat still hurts.  Going on 9 days of a sore throat.  I don't have a fever or white spots on my throat.  I don't think that's normal though....at what point would you gals go the doc?  It just irks me to pay $35 for them to tell me it's a virus and it needs to run its course.  Should I just suck it up and wait it out?

I went through this a couple of months ago. I just kept putting it off and putting it off and then one Saturday I woke up with a 103 temp and feeling like death. I went to our after hours clinic and the doctor told me that at some point I had a virus but never fully got rid of it and it turned into tonsillitis. Worst pain of my life and I was down for 4 days. 

I say if it's already been 9 days and you aren't feeling better then you should go in. Good Luck and I hope you start feeling better soon!

He gave me 10 days of an antibiotic, that nasty magic mouthwash crap but told me to just gargle with it and not swallow cause it makes some people sick when they swallow it. I had to take 2 Tylenol and 2 ibuprofen every 4 hours for awhile so I could get the fever to break. That was the worst part was the fever making me feel terrible. I drank chicken broth and ate popsicles  pretty much non stop for 24 hours and that helped a lot too. 

I was also contagious because of the fever but luckily Hudson never got it!

Oh and the best thing was rest, DH took care of Hudson all weekend and I was able to just lay in bed and sleep. I also just plenty of fluids.

if you don't have a high fever it's probably viral. i can sympathize! i'm still getting over a cold that i have had for the last 10 days. i think it's lingering because i'm not getting enough rest. blech.

you can make magic mouthwash at home-- it is really effective. you mix equal parts liquid maalox, liquid children's benadryl, and liquid children's tylenol or advil, gargle for a couple minutes, then spit it out.

also, is the air dry in your house? that could be contributing to the sore throat.

I'll have to try the magic mouthwash!  Yes- the air in our house has been extremely dry.  I finally got a filter for our humidifier and ran that last night.  Woke up at 3 and could barely swallow....

If you have had a sore throat for over a week, I would probably go to the doctor.  What about one of those minute clinics at the drug stores?
