I'm sure we've talked about this before, but I was curious to see it summarized. What type of labor & delivery did you have?
ETA: Just to clarify - no judgment at all for any type of labor! We all went through a crazy experience, and what matters is that our little ones are here! I'm just curious as to how it ended up for most people.
Also, clearly these options can't cover every possibility. How I'd categorize them: if the c-section wasn't planned, then I'd say it was an emergency (even if it wasn't.. I probably should have just said planned or unplanned). If you went into labor on your own but needed drugs to speed it along, I'd still say it was spontaneous. If you had any type of intervention to get labor started (foley bulb, etc), then I'd say it was induced. Doesn't have to be pitocin to be induced. If you labored for a long time and then had a c-section, I'd say that was an emergency c-section (and more power to you for experiencing both!!!). But feel free to vote SS and describe what happened! And I know that I still haven't covered all the possibilities. And if you've already voted, don't worry about changing your vote

I voted SS. My C-section wasn't scheduled, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it emergency either. I had preeclampsia, and when my blood pressure spiked at 35 weeks, 5 days, they decided to induce me. After an almost three-day induction process, they decided the induction wasn't going to work and said a C section was my best option. They didn't rush me right to the OR or anything since they had gotten my blood pressure temporarily under control; it was several hours after we decided on the C section that I actually got it. So that's why I consider my C section not to be scheduled or an emergency.
Scheduled section, because dd was an emergency one. My pelvis is misshapen, so babies can't get through there. I enjoyed the extra hospital time, though.
I got an epi because I wanted to. This was the first time that I didn't need the pitocin, but I knew how helpful the rest would be with an epi. Was I dying in miserable pain? Sure wasn't. Did I get it anyway? Sure did.
My water broke in the waiting room at my 37 week check up. No pain. Went to hospital and around 2 AM they sort of pushed the Pitocin on me. Then back labor began. Had to get an Epi. I was soooo wanting to try with everything in me to not get one and I just couldn't take it anymore. Back labor is awful.
I voted induced vaginal w/ epi but I probably should have done SS .... 2 rounds of cervadil, pitocin, they broke my water, epi, and a vacuum to help get her out. My actual discharge papers from the hospital said "failed induction"
Spontaneous vaginal delivery with epi, but they used forceps....So I guess it was a Medicated assisted spontaneous vaginal delivery if you want to get all of the adjectives in there.
I had a repeat C/S and I have never been in labor. When I was pregnant with my first, they thought he would be a big baby and my pelvis would be to small. SOo he told me I needed a C/S. When he pulled DS1 out, he said "well you could of had him naturally" since he ended up being under 6 lbs.
Had to have an emergency csection. The pitocin kept making her heartbeat drop after each contraction. We did take meds for the pain, but after 9hrs of labor, the dr did an emergency csection. 15mins later, she was here.
Would you believe I have never felt a true contraction?! I'm actually a little sad over it.
Me neither. Turns out my ute is very good at the cooking of babies but not so much at the getting them out. She's a stage 5 clinger that one
I've always hated that I'll never get to experience labor. My friends think I'm crazy for wanting a vaginal delivery but when you never get the chance to, that's when you really want to do it.
I developed preeclampsia at 32 weeks 3 days and got induced with a foley bulb And Pitocin. They broke my water for baby a and I got an epidural. She was born vaginally. After she was born, they baby b flipped from being breech so I didn't need a breech extraction! They broke his water and his cord prolapsed. He was born via emergency csection. That's why I picked SS. Baby a was an induced, medicated birth while Baby b was an emergency csection.
I had an emergency c section with no pain meds except a very light epi 20 min prior which had not taken effect yet. The hospital recoded all of the medicine and the staff wasn't trained yet. The Anesthesiologist was running around dropping F bombs and the doctor said she couldn't wait. I felt everything and was screaming bloody murder... Needless to say it was traumatic, however they saved my son and so for that I will be forever thankful!
I had a spontaneous vaginal delivery and almost had a med free birth. I made it to 9.5 cm when I stalled. After 3 hours of Pitocin and regressing back to 8, my options were epidural or C-section so I picked the epidural.
I voted emergency c/s per instructions. It was scheduled the day of because LO was breech and we didn't find out until precautionary tests after we went past her due date.
spontaneous vaginal delivery sounds like a horror movie
It was. Any labor that's 3 hours or less is a "precipitous labor" and I made the cut. And it was vicious. I literally didn't have time for the epi! It felt like she punched her way out of there with little help from me.
--------
I have never heard this term before today! My water broke at 6:45 and she arrived at 10:27, so I suppose I'm over the cut, but DAMN. I really didn't have enough time to prepare. I was thinking I'd have hours of labor and pushing... I didn't get "practice pushes", I got on the bed and they said, push her out.
So yeah, I'll say it... I wish my labor was longer, I wish my contractions had started further apart because the three hours of exorcism style contractions were a bitch.
I totally get that. With DD2 I was technically induced, but I was closed like Fort Knox. Once labor actually started, until the time I had her was 3 hours. I remember looking at my husband and saying "I'm dying. This is what it feels like to die."
I voted SS because it wasn't really any of those options, even though it was kind of a scheduled csection, expect it wasn't. I went in to be induced but found out N was breech (both feet down) and had to have a csection. I was able to get one that day. Technically, that is considered a scheduled csection but it wasn't really. I didn't have a choice in the matter.
E came 6 weeks early. It was a total surprise and I was actually out of town! We had a c-section planned but then my water spontaneously broke out of nowhere and I had a drug free labor while waiting for my husband to arrive. Then saw him for about 30 seconds while they were wheeling me to the OR for an emergency c-section which ended up with them trying for the spinal 8 times before finally putting me under general :-S
I went to my scheduled 39 week appointment to find that my blood pressure spiked and LO slept through our weekly ultrasound and didn't do everything they needed to see. (they were watching his heart, since it had been irregular) so I was sent to the hospital to be induced because my doctor wanted to be the one to deliver and he started that next day. Started pitocin about 8pm, labored all night, got an epidural at 2:00am, at 8am, my dr checked me to find LO had his head tipped way far back and his face was coming first. Had to have an emergency c-section or else we were risking breaking his neck. Boo!
Would you believe I have never felt a true contraction?! I'm actually a little sad over it.
Me neither. Turns out my ute is very good at the cooking of babies but not so much at the getting them out. She's a stage 5 clinger that one

I still feel completely cheated that I never even got to have a single contraction.
Which brings me to my SS. It was "planned" because they had me wait around 8 hours for the next shift change but it was also "emergency" because they were never going to let me go into labour because she was footling. One contraction and they would have had me in the OR.
Went into labor spontaneously, labored all day, got a sweet sweet epi, dilated all the way, pushed for 3 hours, baby boy decided he changed his mind and wasn't going anywhere near the exit so got pitocin to try and force him, didn't move one single bit, got a csection.
I was a week and a half past my due date, 5 cm and fully effaced, and not in labor. They broke my water to induce and I was 6 cm right before she broke it (still not in active labor) and 7 cm right after she broke it. And that's all I needed - 8 hrs later she was here! I made it without pain meds!
Spontaneous labor, vaginal delivery, tried to do it med-free, went through 20 hours of active labor without food or sleep or meds, so I finally got the epi at 4.5 cm. after 4 more hours of labor and two hours of pushing, she arrived. 8 lbs 15 oz
I walked around 90% effaced, 0 station and 4 cm dilated for a month (preterm labor at 29 weeks & 6 weeks of bedrest). Finally my water broke at exactly 37 weeks. I was at 6 by the time I got to the hospital, and after 2 hours of back labor was ready to push . . . for 3 freaking hours. After all that drama, little turkey was stuck behind the pubic bone. I wasn't able to have an epidural due to a previous back surgery.
I still say I would rather have pushed for 3 hours than have had any more back labor. That was no bueno.
Went into labor spontaneously and got to ten cm on my own (had epi though) after like 20 hours of active labor. Baby never really dropped, never got past positive 1 station, and I never felt any urge to push. After almost three hours of pushing, the doctors said they didn't think she was going to be born vaginally because we had made no progress. They urged a c section because I pushed for so long and nothing happened. At all.
Arrived at the hospital 8cm, and was pretty proud of myself (I had an epi at 4cm with DD). An ultrasound in triage showed DS had flipped since my appt 5 days earlier, so we had an emergency c-section because of how dilated i was.
mine was a mix. I was induced and made through 13 1/2hrs of back labor before they determined my pelvis was infact to small and I would not progress past 5cm. C-section was not emergency per say but it was not scheduled.

Epi for Wyatt's "unique" exiting style, med-free for Lucy's perfect escape from my bits.
