I started making definite plans. Feels great. I picked out the wedding dress. Felt amazing. I felt like a bride. Not like I was playing dress up.
Two weekends ago my cousin and his wife had a wedding. They had been married for eight years. Renewing their vows. I couldn't get a sitter and Dh was working so I couldn't make it. I saw pictures from the photographer on facebook. I just about died inside.
Her dress was the SAME EXACT DRESS.
There's plenty of people telling me I should just keep the dress. I just can't. And there's more reasons than one but the main reason is half of her guests that saw the dress will be at my wedding. If it had been a friend wedding even a distant second cousin it'd be different.
Now I need a new dress.
The wedding is going to be at the local lighthouse on the south lawn. The beach is a stones throw away and the guests can walk the beach if they'd like. My centerpieces will be blue antique mason jars with sand and a candle inside. Shells and a starfish will surround the jar on each table. We are only having 100 people. Three bridesmaids three groomsmen. Dd and ds are or flower girl and ring bearer. We are having the ceremony under the giant oak tree facing the beach. Afterwards food and drink and cake. No dj. No official dance floor. It's going to be pretty casual which is so appropriate for us.
Now. Help me find a dress. I currently am a jean size 18. I was losing weight til the last month because we were renovating. So...I'll, God willing, be thinner by July. I need a whispy dress. Budget is small.
And go.
Re: Wedding talk
This is the one I want. It's April by Maggie Sottero.
Plus! Are you both even the same shape? If not the same dress would look completely different on you. So I wouldn't worry about it.
Then I would check out department stores. Jcrew, Ann Taylor (they have bridal on line), etc. if it's casually, i might look for just a really nice dress and have it tailored well. No one will know the difference most of the time and you might be more comfortable.
I can barely remember what my good friends dress looked like a year ago. Or the last brides dress at the last wedding I went to a few months ago. But I do remember the brides dress this summer because it was almost exactly like mine -- and she wasn't even a friend of mine. LOL.
So I stand by the fact the no one will notice. (Unless you make a big deal about it and tell everyone)
ITA. The only person who will probably notice is the bride who wore the same dress. And if you alter it, even she probably won't notice!
My mother decided to go manic so she said she's not paying for my dress anymore giving me the only option as to lower the budget to around $200-300. We'll see. I am going to reschedule a day to try on dresses and see how things go.
We got married by a magistrate, 10:30 at night, in the county jail six hours before leaving for the Dominican Republic. I think I wore a sundress from kohl's
We had a reception a few months later...but I'd die before having a wedding. Even a small one. I don't know, not my style. EFF edited typo
