Cloth Diapering

Wedding talk

I started making definite plans. Feels great. I picked out the wedding dress. Felt amazing. I felt like a bride. Not like I was playing dress up.

Two weekends ago my cousin and his wife had a wedding. They had been married for eight years. Renewing their vows. I couldn't get a sitter and Dh was working so I couldn't make it. I saw pictures from the photographer on facebook. I just about died inside.

Her dress was the SAME EXACT DRESS.

There's plenty of people telling me I should just keep the dress. I just can't. And there's more reasons than one but the main reason is half of her guests that saw the dress will be at my wedding. If it had been a friend wedding even a distant second cousin it'd be different.

Now I need a new dress.

The wedding is going to be at the local lighthouse on the south lawn. The beach is a stones throw away and the guests can walk the beach if they'd like. My centerpieces will be blue antique mason jars with sand and a candle inside. Shells and a starfish will surround the jar on each table. We are only having 100 people. Three bridesmaids three groomsmen. Dd and ds are or flower girl and ring bearer. We are having the ceremony under the giant oak tree facing the beach. Afterwards food and drink and cake. No dj. No official dance floor. It's going to be pretty casual which is so appropriate for us.

Now. Help me find a dress. I currently am a jean size 18. I was losing weight til the last month because we were renovating. So...I'll, God willing, be thinner by July. I need a whispy dress. Budget is small.

And go.

I'm a bit of a lurker, but we just got married this summer, and our wedding was casual like yours. I ended up going with a Theia gown, but I LOVED the JCrew dresses (and their price tags!). Lots of chiffon and other light fabrics. Something like this?

  • It's only 100. My mom was playing towards the whole cost. After half is down you can order it. And I can get a dress from that same shop using the money towards a new one.

  • Yay! I love wedding talk :)

I agree with @nana_osaki06 about Maggie Sottero. My dress was a Maggie, and I LOVE it. You might also check out the Gracelyn or Colby for something flowy:

Do you know what designers your dress shop carries? That would help limit the search :)

  • Wow! The original dress looks fantastic on you! Have you thought about altering the original instead of buying a whole new one?  Like maybe you could take off the rhinestones and put on a blue sash? Add some lace cap sleeves/straps or something? Maybe something could be done around the hemline? It fits you so beautifully!
  • I also had a very small, casual wedding and wore a flowy chiffon gown from BCBG. Their bridal dresses are quite affordable and they always seem to have something light and loose. Here's my dress from 2 years ago:

  • I vote change the original dress. Most people don't notice things like the wedding dress lol. They'll be looking at you and saying how beautiful you are. And that the dress is gorgeous. But they guys likely won't know the difference in one white dress to another. And women may or may not remember someone else's dress. The cousin will recognize the dress but that is about it.

Plus! Are you both even the same shape? If not the same dress would look completely different on you. So I wouldn't worry about it.

  • guys, Maggie is NOT for a small budget! just throwing that out there BemyselfandI...My dress was from David's Bridal, not sure it has a name either lol, but I paid $700 which is cheap nowadays. I think the Jcrew options sound good or the ones that chgibeau gave you. Good luck and I am still sorry this happened. I remember being pissed when someone had the same prom dress as me let alone a wedding dress. chin up!

  • I would see about altering the original first.

Then I would check out department stores. Jcrew, Ann Taylor (they have bridal on line), etc. if it's casually, i might look for just a really nice dress and have it tailored well. No one will know the difference most of the time and you might be more comfortable.

  • Adding.

I can barely remember what my good friends dress looked like a year ago. Or the last brides dress at the last wedding I went to a few months ago. But I do remember the brides dress this summer because it was almost exactly like mine -- and she wasn't even a friend of mine. LOL.

So I stand by the fact the no one will notice. (Unless you make a big deal about it and tell everyone)

ITA. The only person who will probably notice is the bride who wore the same dress. And if you alter it, even
    she probably won't notice!
  • Thanks ladies.

My mother decided to go manic so she said she's not paying for my dress anymore giving me the only option as to lower the budget to around $200-300. We'll see. I am going to reschedule a day to try on dresses and see how things go.

  • Geez. You guys are all fancy. I don't even know if my dress had a name.

We got married by a magistrate, 10:30 at night, in the county jail six hours before leaving for the Dominican Republic. I think I wore a sundress from kohl's

Haha well technically my marriage took place at the courthouse a couple of hours before my ultrasound. A day after I told DH to man up and get me health ins. But then we had a wedding later.

We had a reception a few months later...but I'd die before having a wedding. Even a small one. I don't know, not my style. EFF edited typo
