Why did I buy that?: fitness edition

Uh, better late than never yes?

Today's Item: THE THIGHMASTER!

The fitness revelation that started it all! Thank you Suzanne Sommers for making women everywhere think that spot reducing actually works. Dun, dun, dun it doesn't! We were poor growing up but somehow mom had money for this marvel. I never saw her use it, but I did 100 crunches a night in my teens because I was told, and reminded often, you are fat if your thighs touch. Thanks for that gem mom. Anyway, yes the thing has decent tension (I recall it hit me in the face a couple times when I released improperly and it forcibly sprung from my crotchal region) and if used with a complete diet and exercise program it might help. It does not work if you eat a Swiss Cake roll when you're done. Which I did.

Verdict: there's a reason you don't see ads for this anymore. Get a Pilates exercise band instead. Those are awesome.

What have you tried? Buns of Steel, Tae-Bo, P90x, Shake Weight??? Do tell!

Re: Why did I buy that?: fitness edition

  • I've never tried any of these personally but always thought the shake weight looked....interesting
    :))

  • We did buns of steel once during a volleyball team workout. So. Painful. We only did it once though, so no idea if it works unless the point is to make your butt super sore. Because it does do that.
I also bought these once: image
They do give your legs, mostly your calves, a good workout. Definitely embarrassed that I have them though.

  • My DH and I have done P90x twice thru and now use specific workouts from it mixed in with other stuff. I think the workouts are great.

I don't recommend following the diet they lay out to a tee if you aren't trying to lose a significant amount of weight. DH and I were both in decent shape when we started the program using it for toning not weight loss. The first two weeks we followed the recommended diet and were both starving the whole time. I actually lost weight I didn't have to lose and was under weight for my height and had zero energy. We stopped using the diet and just did the workouts after that and it was really good for toning.

  • I did Tae Bo and it worked, I really liked it...until I started doing Zumba. I will never work out any other way again!

My parents have a "work out room" in their basement, filled with these goodies. I don't think they realize that having a gym does not give you the same benefits as using a gym. But I love them anyway for their silly antics.

  • I did p90x and loved it by about the third week you start seeing the difference and feeling it too. I did it for about 2 year with a little break every 90 days. I never followed the meals because I can't and don't eat most seafood, and it was still effective. I just don't have 1 hr every day to devote to it anymore

  • I did Insanity, it almost killed me though.
