April 2014 Moms

Monday = Cerclage Day

Hello everyone! Sorry,I know most of you probably won't remember me because I only posted a few times; I've been a little busy. Recap: Don't know all the lingo and abbreviations yet BUT I am working on them- 2nd pregnancy, I am due April 28th 2014 but will have a c-section the week prior; high-risk pregnancy due to a weak/shallow cervix, body wants to go into premature labor, and pcos (1st child was born at 26.6 weeks by emergency c-section after a month of bed rest, no worries- she is a healthy 5 yr old). Two weeks ago I got to hear baby's heart- fluxed between 155 and 160 (makes me think it'll be another girl cause of old wives tale)- will find out in December what baby's gender is for sure (Dad thinks a boy). I go to 2 docs (specialist and regular OBGYN) who have both decided that I need a cerclage and progesterone shots to try to avoid preterm labor this go around; cerclage is set for Nov. 4th and shots are to be weekly begenning Nov. 12th. Needless to say, I am scared to death that there will be complications to either- yes, I have looked them up and there are some risks associated with both (low, but there). I am just a worry-wart, and rightly so, but I have put my faith in my doctors that my baby will "cook in the oven until done" this time. I've felt butterfly sensations a few times recently and know this baby is thriving so far; I am completley and madly in love with her/him. Has anyone had to have either (cerclage or progesterone)? If so, can you give me any tips or how yours went... please. If no one has, no biggy... just wanted to reach out to the group and let you all know that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Have a Happy Halloween everyone!

Re: Monday = Cerclage Day

  • No experience with either - just wanted to say I am wishing you the best and hope all goes well on Monday.  I am at risk for my cervix shortening/softening early and therefore am being monitored to see if I need a cerclage.  From what my OB has said, the risks are minimal compared to the possibility of preterm labor.

  • I'm also on the pregnant after a loss board and a lot of ladies on there get them if their history included going into early labor. Theirs tend to be uneventful, I hope yours is too!

  • I'm on the progesterone shots. This is my second pregnancy with them. I don't have much advice, but can tell you that they don't hurt. The first shot may leave you with a sore bum and a nasty headache, but after that, it is a piece of cake. I would reach out to the high risk board. There are a lot of ladies there that had/have a cerclage.
