I had my regular anatomy scan yesterday, and baby looks healthy but they weren't able to tell us the sex But since I have GD again they're sending me for a level 2 u/s with the MFM next week so I'm wondering
1) what to expect at a level 2 - just a longer, more in depth u/s?
2) DH won't be able to be with me for the level 2, are most techs pretty willing to write down and seal the sex in an envelope so we can find out together later?
All of my u/s with my other pregnancies were "in house," I've never had one with an MFM, so any experience you can share would be great

Me. That's where I had my anatomy scan. It only took my doctor about 20 minutes to get all the measurements he needed, and he told us what he was measuring and that the measurement looked good while he was doing it.
It'll likely be the doctor actually doing the scan, but I know my doctor would have been willing to write down the sex for us.
I seem to hear that a lot of people get the gender written down in an envelope for them but when I asked at my place a while ago, the tech told me that they will not write it down. We are not finding out the gender and we made that decision shortly after that ultrasound so good thing they wouldn't. I go to my hospital for the ultrasounds and they are not very personable either and I think it's a liability issue with them so they won't
I had my NT scan at the MFM and my anatomy will be there tomorrow. I am guessing whether or not they write it down just depends on the person doing the scan.

My anatomy scan was a level II at an MFM - it was the same as the 'regular' u/s except the machines show more detail, and the doctor came in right after the tech was done to talk about the results, and in our case, get a few more measurements. They would have told us the sex there if we'd wanted to know but we're not finding out.

Thanks, ladies. I think we'll come up with a back up plan just in case they won't write it down for us. I just hate to find out without DH, this is our last baby and I don't want him to miss anything

If you want them to write it down and put it in an envelope, I'd bring an envelope. This was advice I got from my other BMB. This way the tech won't have to scramble to find an envelope.
I don't know if I had a level II, but I'm having a second half of my a/s in a couple of weeks. All of my scans are at my MFM's office and I only saw him briefly once and he didn't speak to me. I think he just came into the room to get something and commented as I was getting my scan "Good cervix!" and walked out. I am not a fan, but I'm not putting much into him, I'm relying on my OB and my endo. He is just the guy at the lab I get my scans in my eyes.

This. It was not that different from my previous anatomy scan. They just measured more bones and I spoke with Dr. after (not my Dr. but the one on call).
i had my anatomy scan at mfm level 2 cause i am high risk. mine took almost 2 hours and i have to go back tomorrow cause my baby was doing flips. it is the same as any other ultrasound

My miracle baby was born March 5 at 9:33am. He was 8 lbs 12.5 oz and 21.25 inches long!
I had a level two for her white spot on her heart.... They made is sound so scary and seriously it wS just an ultra sound! Better quality, longer and lots more measurements but it is just like a regular one. Oooh and at mine the doctor and tech were nicer than my regular u/s lady!!
I had mine today. My quad screen results were abnormal so they sent us to get a targeted scan with MFM. It lasted about an hour and it was just a very, very detailed ultrasound of everything! Baby was perfectly healthy no neural tube defects or chromosomal abnormalities according to the scan, just my placenta was the problem. But it was a nice experience to just get to sit there for so long and not be rushed at all and watch your baby on TV.

Oh, good call. I'll make sure to tuck one in my purse before I go.
Thanks, ladies, I assumed it wasn't much different than any other u/s, but it's nice to have it confirmed

I had an u/s Monday with MFM. This was because of my results on the quad screen. It was awesome. They took like an hour, examined everything and had a huge screen to show the u/s. normally I can see so little on the screen since its being done on me of course, so I have to crane my head to look. But this time it was on a huge screen right in front of me. And I loved the security of having such a great team and so experienced. And the tech told me everything -normally I've found that techs aren't really supposed to tell you much but she said shed tell me even if she saw something off in the u/s.
I had a Level 2 ultrasound at MFM. At my a/s that morning, they couldn't see enough. It was definitely longer than the morning one, but the tech said she was moving a lot. After the ultrasound, she did as transvaginal to check my cervix. Then the doctor came in and he did another ultrasound, which included 3D and 4D.
We didn't ask, but the tech was very nice and I think she would have written it down.
I thought the level 2 US was amazing compared to the first one. You could see so much detail especially in the spine and brain. I thought it was pretty incredible and was a little bummed my husband wasn't there to see. My tech was really sweet and offered to put the gender in a sealed envelope. We just opened it and she typed it out on the ultra sound pic which will make a nice keepsake.
Like some of the other previous posters, I had part two of my anatomy scan with my MFM doctor today. In fact she told me they used to be called Level 2 u/s but they don't call them that anymore. Perhaps it's a regional thing... Anyway, he/she will take measurements of LO anatomy and look for any anomalies.
Same as most others....we had ours at the MFM because doc said we could and they have better machines! It's no different just maybe longer and more detailed? First the tech looked around, took measurements, said everything looked good. Then the actual doc came in and looked around some more and explained to more what we were actually looking at. We looked away for the "goods" because we are team green but everyone was so nice sure they would have put the info in an envelope if we requested it....good luck and enjoy seeing LO!!
