Nursing In Public: PhD Edition

How's it going now that we're all "experts"?

I'm currently pumping on the Acela, which is awkward, but necessary :-/

I much prefer nursing...no pump noise, and a cute baby to distract people!

I've only had to nurse in public a couple times. Once at the mall...I went into a fitting room at Sears for that. And then once at a restaurant. Otherwise I always just feed her before we go out, and we are always home by the time she's hungry again. I am 1000% supportive of nursing in public, and I'm not offended if I catch sight of some nipple...but for myself, I use a shawl to cover my boob if feeding in public is necessary because I'm super modest that way. I basically hate nursing in public, but will of course do it if we need to because I'm not going to starve S.

S is the same. She pulls and flails at the cover and she will NOT take a bottle, so I gave up on pumping. She has mad love for the boob.

Lol. DD isn't a huge fan of the cover, but she'll nurse in the ergo, which is pretty good coverage...

I don't mind NIP. I won't do it in church, but otherwise if baby needs to eat he needs to eat. The only place I have felt slightly odd about it is during middle school soccer games. There I walk away from the kids, and nurse in the carrier. No kid wants to see a teacher's nipple even if it's by mistake.

I only own 2 nursing shirts though, and I feel most comfortable NIP in them since almost everything stays covered, so I feel like I wear the same shirt every time I leave the house, which basically I do. I should probably invest in more of them. They are so darn expensive though.

It is epically hard to tandem nurse in public because I need a boppy or whatnot, but I do occasionally nurse them separately in public. It's just more time consuming, so I'm more likely to go back to the van where my pillow is. Plus, I can trap my oldest in there with me and not have him running around like a crazy man.

I still feel awkward nip especially in the back of my car when I'm by myself but DS won't take a bottle so I don't really have a choice. It makes me nervous when I'm at a rest stop on the highway.

I NIP everywhere. I layer my clothes so I pull my top shirt up and have a tank underneath that I pull down. Any skin that shows is covered by her head. I couldn't care less if someone sees something. I'm feeding my baby. I've nursed babies for a total of 2.5 years at this point though so I'm pretty used to it.

That's what i wear too, makes it so easy. I don't even bring the cover with us anymore. Its too much of a pain. I nurse him where every we may be at the time (restaurant, store, park, zoo, etc.). The only time i have used the cover recently was at my nieces dive meet, lots of high school boys, i just felt weird popping it out. I don't think i have ever gotten a dirty look either, ive actually had people complement me on how great it was that i was nursing DS.

I nip everywhere. I hate the cover and so does baby. I generally only wear it in church or in front of my ten year old nephew. I agree about the nursing shirts being so darned expensive. I justified spending so much money on maternity clothes because I thought I'd use them again. Well you all know what happened so I'm too bitter to spend a fortune on nursing stuff.

DD does not take a bottle, so I will NIP anywhere, anytime - during exercise classes at the local park, walking around the mall, at the office while still on mat leave, in restaurants and coffee shops, in the grocery store, at a large outdoor Wine Festival, at my grandmother's 89th birthday party at her retirement home (lots of evil looks from my aunts and the older folks), on a hayride, while apple picking, at church, in the swimming pool, and at the zoo.

The only time I completely cover up is in church or while getting DD to latch in front of men/curious children. Otherwise, I do not cover DD's face, but may use an A&A blanket for comfort (one of DD's sleep cues) or to cover my belly if I am not wearing a nursing tank.

DD hates the cover but I've used a blanket to try to cover a little... I only really NIP if I am wearing a tank and a shirt over top. My boobs are so big that most nursing tops that I can pull my boob out of are SO not modest. MIL won't let me nurse in front of FIL but I've nursed in front of cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents. If I don't act awkward about it no one cares. I just hate that MIL is so awkward about it. It makes me want to pull my boob out at the thanksgiving table just to mess with her!
