3rd Trimester

Is it possible...?

So I've had some serious reproductive issues. Heavy bleeding, ovarian cysts, mc, ect... While I know a lot of people don't experience BH's at all or contractions before actual labor.. Is it possible that maybe I've had some of these BH/contractions and I just didn't know it? I've dealt with some serious pain there- so I'm wondering if I just chalk it up to baby not being in a good spot or moving and it hurting me ect. Any STM or those that have had similar issues wonder/think about this? Just curious. Thank you :)
39 weeks btw.

Re: Is it possible...?

  • I don't know from personal experience, but I have read about people being hooked up or having an ultrasound being told that they were having contractions, when they couldn't tell.

  • I'm confused why you say you've clearly felt pain and discomfort but think you may not have noticed contractions. Those could have been contractions, they could have been baby's position, they could have been gas/RLP/pelvic pressure/etc. As long as your doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't be.

There are so many random pains at the end of pregnancy and unless you're hooked up to a monitor no way to know if each one is a contraction so I just try to press on and not over focus on them.

I'm sorry I meant serious pain as in with having cysts and such. Wondering if BH's/contractions aren't as painful (obviously non active labor ones) as having a cyst rupture ect. I was just curious. If I'm ever "worried" about anything I ask the doctors. I was just seeing anyone's opinion on this that have experience this previous pain and it wasn't comparable up until it was active labor. That's all :)

  • I am 38 weeks and have had lots of contractions that I've felt, none have been painful, they are just kind of annoying.

I also have a pretty large cyst on on right ovary that causes consistent pain - sometimes the pain is worse than others. Sometimes the contractions make the cyst hurt more than normal. My doctors have not been concerned about the pain from the cyst, since it was originally diagnosed. They gave me some warning signs to look for torsion of the cyst, but so far it's just been the "normal" pain.

Gah I hope you feel better! I know the pain when they rupture... Hopefully this gets no worse for you!

Ok, makes sense. I've never had cysts so I can't compare about the pain, but I can say that sometimes early labor contractions aren't painful. Mine were uncomfortable enough that I couldn't sleep through them, but took a while to amp up to the point of pain. By that point there was no question whether or not they were contractions.

    Ah gotcha. Thank you!!

  • I didn't feel BH contractions at all during my first pregnancy.  I feel them this time, but they haven't started hurting yet.  They are just strong and tight.

  • With DS1, I really only noticed my BH when my belly felt super hard to the touch. Also, when I was hooked up to the monitors before giving birth, I was having contractions and didn't know. So yes, possible.

  • I am 30 weeks, I think my BH have started. I thought it was her head low down, pressing against my uterus and making it tense and firm, it almost feels like the baby. But it lasts for maybe 20-30 seconds, a lot longer than if she was moving. It does not hurt at all, except when they are low on my left side, which is a little bit of endo scarring.

I was a little worried they were going to be painful. They are just weird though.
