Trouble TTC

Discomfort after IUI

Hey ladies.  So this morning (around 8:30am) I had IUI #2 and right now I am STRUGGLING.

I feel like my stomach is about to burst, am cramping pretty bad, and my face feels like its getting warm (still at work so can't check temp).  I am sitting at my desk and can't even bare to move.  I took a 1/2 day in the morning, so I'm just trying to suffer through the next hour until I can go home.

My 1st IUI I didn't feel any discomfort (during or after) so this is new for me.  I had some pretty heightened ovulation pain/discomfort this time, and my IUI was a little painful too.

Thoughts or common experiences??  I already took ibuprofen this morning, but thinking I need another dose.

Re: Discomfort after IUI

  • I wouldn't worry much unless you keep getting worse.  The pain and effects from my IUI varied a lot between the two I've had.  One hurt and made me feel bleh, the other I didn't feel a thing.

Thanks @gsancho...I really feel terrible.  :o\   The discomfort is becoming borderline unbearable, and my head is feeling fuzzy.  I leave work in 20 minutes, so I'll be couch-bound for the rest of the evening I think.

  • Wow, you're a champ if you went to work the same day as your IUI. I've been fortunate to have all my IUIs fall on days off, but I am out of commission for at least 12 hours (intense pain and feeling like my stomach is going to burst) and then just horrible cramping for another day or so. I think it's normal, though. Especially if you had a lot of follicles.

  • All of my IUI cycles were intensely painful on the day of O thanks to all those follies rupturing at the same time. My RE does not allow any ibuprofen, so if I were you I'd switch to Tylenol instead. I know it doesn't work nearly as well, but I don't want to do anything to mess with my cycle (and hopeful pregnancy).

  • @andrea2380 - haha...I'm usually at work by 6:45.  I teach high school, so our day runs from 7:30-2:30...it's definitely nice to be done early.

and thank you...I appreciate it.  I did call my RE and he said that pain/discomfort/bloating is all normal, but he wants me to call if he gets worse/doesn't get better overnight.

I sure hope it does...I really can't take tomorrow off :o\.

@absolutelymaybe -- when I told the nurse I didn't feel anything after my 1st IUI she said I must have gotten lucky!  My 1st IUI was easy...but I also didn't respond to my meds and O'd late naturally...so maybe that had something to do with it?  I can definitely see being out of commission for 12+ hours, and will definitely plan accordingly should I need IUI #3!!!

@RunCC37 -- thanks for the advice.  Just had DH go out for Tylenol.  I only have ibuprofen and alieve in the house.

  • Whew....I could barely function for the rest of work.  Sitting was uncomfortable, but getting up to walk was worse!!  .... and I teach high school kids!!  Luckily my kids were working on projects and I didn't have to do much.
