When to get fat pants

At what week should I get bigger clothes? I am 8 weeks 2 days. For the last week, every time I sit down I have to unbutton my pants. I want to wait until christmas to tell people, but at this rate i think it might have to be sooner.

Please share what you are going through.

Re: When to get fat pants

  • There is no certain week that you should wait for to get certain clothes.  When my clothes get too tight, I plan to go get bigger ones. Hasn't happened yet!

  • When you feel like it.

You can put a rubberband through your button hole to help.
  • I've been using the rubber band trick for some of my tighter pants.  It's still pretty warm here so I'm taking advantage and wearing lots of dresses while I can.  However, I have a coupon for Old Navy that is only good this weekend so I will probably go ahead and order some maternity jeans while I can save some moola.

They are not fat pants, you are not fat. You're pregnant and it's a beautiful thing. I bought them about 11 weeks last time. Maternity pants are a gift from God.

This. I waited till 20 weeks with my first. Huge mistake. I felt like a stuffed sausage.
  • Change when you feel like it - there is no golden rule, plus no alarms go off saying your in maternity.

For my work stuff i had to switch about a week ago - 6weeks because of the baby bloat. I figured i've got them from a shopping trip i took right before i MC i might as well use them .But really it's a personal choice and based on how they fit.

Ready or not here we go !

Agree with all of this. I'm already wearing demi band pants. It's my 3rd pregnancy but still just bloat. I love mat pants. I figure you have to buy them anyways why not get your money's worth and wear them as long as possible. No sense in being uncomfy IMO.

My thoughts exactly. I used belly bands and hair elastics for way too long last time, maternity pants felt amazing. I'm going to buy some soon and embrace it, get my money's worth out of them. I don't see the point in stuffing yourself in non maternity for as long as you can, you will eventually have to get it.

  • My work pants have been a bit snug for a few weeks now.  I tried the belly band but I felt like I had to hike my pants up every two minutes, so today I caved and pulled my maternity pants out of storage.  Best life decision ever.  I am so comfortable today!  I've also noticed I don't have any of the dull cramping I've had over the past week... I am wondering if my tight pants were the cause of that in the first place!

I may never go back to regular pants again.  Ever.

  • When ur clothes get to small get bigger ones. Mine are still a little big on me bc I am right in between sizes but Id rather wear jeans a little baggy then look like a busted can of biscuits trying to wear the smaller ones.

  • I am usually a size 4... I got those "belly bands" that you can leave pants unbuttoned and it covers just that area like a tank top. That worked for like a week.. I am 6 weeks 3 days, and there is no way. Monday I had to go buy myself 2 pairs of size 8 pants. I was SO uncomfortable. I think these should get me through until I need to buy the elastic ones. I thought when you were more petite it would take longer to show... I can't believe how much I have popped already.. and my boobs.. which are already big 34D have seriously grown.. I'm worried people at work are going to notice so I'm bundling up with layers and sweaters... Oh and my butt... totally has gotten wider.. this is just so weird because I have literally been the same size/weight for the past 15 years... I never fluctuate..
  • Maternity clothes look so much like reg clothes now and are so freaking comfortable I'm going to wear them as soon as my clothes get tight.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Don't wait! I squeezed into my regular jeans with a hairband and belly band until 18 weeks and everytime I sat down that button poked me in the uterus. Not worth it.
Demi panels are so comfy and more discreet in my opinion than a belly band.
This time around nothing is going to touch my belly at all until I fully embrace the giant panels in 3rd tri.
    Happy shopping!
  • Luckily, I'd lost a bit of weight before getting pregnant, so all of my pants were really loose (but I was juuuust a little too big for the size down) so, I'll still get a little while out of these pants, that being said, if I were in a size that wasn't huge on me, I would already be in Mat pants.

I have broken out the demi band mat pants.  It was that or buy pants in the next size up - this seemed the more economical choice, since they'll last me longer.

    Freaking comfortable, too.

Part of that - before I got KU, I'd lost nearly 40 pounds, then gained back 25, so I was already pushing it in the pants I had.  I haven't gained any weight, but I sure can't fit into them.

This made me laugh really hard!

I have a couple of pairs of stretchy jeans that are still comfortable. I didn't break out my maternity pants until week 21 last time around. I looooooove maternity pants.

  • Maternity pants must have changed a lot since I was last KU 8 years ago...I remember them being a pain in the ass that didn't fit right, sagged, and wouldn't stay up. I don't understand this love for maternity pants!
  • @SNLT1012  I think if you get good ones, they're great.  I'm wearing a pair of grey slacks from Gap right now, and they look better than my regular pants.

My cousin wore her normal jeans her entire 9 months.

Me on the other hand? I don't think I ever officially put my maternity pants away between my 1st and second pregnancies. I just kept wearing them because I loved them. I have not started wearing them yet for this pregnancy only because I have been too lazy to get them out of storage. Even though my real clothes fit still I can't wait to bust out my maternity clothes.

I will say though that it totally depends on the shirt or pants- there are a few I wish I hadn't bought because they just don't fit right and a few pieces I LOVE.

  • You can get a belly band from targhetto for like $20.

  • I have a few pairs of maternity jeans from my first pregnancy (this is my third) I was smaller then so I think they fit good. They may not fit this whole pregnancy but for now I am loving them. I'm 7w4d. I still have been wearing my regular jeans when I've gone out with friends but I'm wearing maternity jeans for comfort now. Like someone else said its not like people know or can tell. I wear a longer shirt so no one knows what kind of pants I'm wearing.
  • I'm getting ready for some fat pants at 8 w 2 d...
