# How Many Ounces Per Bottle Does LO Take?

member
edited October 2013
LO has taken the same amount since he was about a month old- 4 oz per feeding. We are still feeding once per night, in addition to a dreamfeed, and I wonder if each feeding is on the small side to begin with. Appease this crazy need for comparison with a vote

My LO takes 4 to 5 oz most feedings but 8 oz in the mornings. He sleeps from 8:30 to 5. The 5 am bottle is 4 oz. then he goes back to sleep. The 8 oz bottle is once were awake for the day, around 9 am.

I said 3-4. We FF and my doc said we should try for 28-32 ounces a day. We were up to 5 ozs per 5-6 bottles, but she started spitting up a lot so the nurse said to go down to 4 because she was probably spitting up the extra ounce anyway.

We BF, but DS started daycare yesterday. So far he took just over 4 oz three times the first day (total of 13 oz) and four times today (total of 16 oz) over about 8 hours.

My LO seems pretty random with her eating these days, usually taking 3-5 ounces per feeding.....she spits up a lot though so sometimes she will do 3 ounces and then an hour and a half later take another 2-3. Sometimes she will take 5. In the MOTN she will only take 2ounces, does not matter what I do to try and get her to take more....

Finn fights the bottle and will only take 1 oz at a time for SO. If I try to give him a bottle, he'll down 4 oz like no one's business.

@eaguirre2 Kellymom says its different for formula because the makeup of breastmilk changes as your baby grows, but formula always stays the same. Which is why some babies eat 3-4 oz 7-8 times a day for months when it's breastmilk.

As for your brother and SIL, I can't answer to that. We love our every 3 hour feeding schedule around here, but we bf and so 6oz seems like a lot to me too.

There is an actual formula to help ebf moms figure out how much LO will eat per day for bottle. My LC uses it and divides the oz number by how many times I feed and it's only off half an ounce from weighted feedings. Sorry I don't know the formula. I know you use the babies weight.

Our LO takes 6oz per feeding. Considering she had feeding issues when born that got her an extra 6weeks in the hosp after birth and came home with a G tube (only had it for 3wks) and was only eating 2oz she's came a mighty long way and is eating like a piggy @ 3months.

D drinks between 5-8ozs. Every onces in a while he drinks 3-4, we call that his snack.

We call her night feeding a snack at 4oz as well.

I am very thankful for this post. DD has been at dc for 4weeks now. She started out at 3oz of BM x3/day and is now up to 4oz x3/day. The increase stresses me out a little since I have to fight to get the extra milk to have enough to send with her for the day and I was questioning if that might be a little much. This seems like we are right on track - and I am able to keep up with a few extra night pumps.

We FF. DS takes 4 oz every 2-3 hours during the day. During the two hour period before bed he takes 10-12 oz. His first morning feeding is 5-6 oz

We BF and I have a not so fond of the bottle kid. He feeds from me every 2 hours. We make 3 oz bottles. He doesn't always finish them. If I;m not home before bed he will only take 1 oz from DH, though he wants to nurse for almost an hour before bed normally... he is a special snowflake

5.5oz bottles of breastmilk.  I'm about to go to 6oz bc she seems hungry still.  Dr told me to do age in months plus 2 for oz.  Has been working for DD.  She's been sleeping 11 hours at night and I give her a bottle before bed, that has helped so much.

This is us too. She eats about 34 oz typically or 40 during a growth spurt. Our son was almost exactly the same.
