We are planning to have a small memorial for our son next month, just family. I was wondering what were some things you all did, read, etc., to honor your angel babies? I'm thinking of releasing balloons, reading a poem and some scripture, giving framed footprints to our parents... Any ideas are appreciated.
Me: 32 DH: 33 High School Sweethearts Married 5/28/2005
DS1 born 6/5/10 at 40 weeks via emergency c-section due to fetal distress and IUGR caused by placental insufficiency
DS2 born still 8/28/13 at 32 weeks via emergency c-section due to a complete placental abruption - cause unknown
Baby #3 on the way, EDD 2/29/16. Originally twins, but we said goodbye to Baby B at 8 weeks.
We read this passage: 2 Samuel 12:22-23. We read a prayer that the hospital had given to us. It was a prayer for the parents, grandparents, and family. We played several songs: It is Well, Amazing Grace, and Your Hands. I know there was more, but I honestly do not remember much more.
For her angelversary, we are going to release sky lanterns. It will be a tradition we do each year.
"Elsie Irene was born sleeping at 35w 6d on December 8, 2012. Mommy and Daddy miss you sweet girl."
We haven't done a memorial (Jesse just died on Oct.13) but I would like to do a lantern release for his angelversary next year and and each year in the future.
I think the framed footprints are a beautiful way to memorialize your son and share with other family member. Whatever you end up doing will be perfect, and I hope it is a day filled with love and peace.

To those releasing lanterns, I have one piece of advice. Do a test release first or buy many extras and be soooo careful opening the lantern, they rip easily and we had trouble getting it to launch. My husband and I returned to Bermuda the end of Sept (we went there in May a week before Joseph passed for our Babymoon) and our plan was to release the lanterns there. We did not do a test release first and 2 lanterns ripped and the last got 15 feet into the air and then fell into the water, so after 3 attempts in Bermuda we were not able to get one to launch. We were so sad.
However there was a silver lining when we told a cousin and they said that Joseph was just not ready to leave us yet, which made me feel really good.
We are considering releasing them again on his angelversary.
Also at the burial we attended last week they read Corinthians 13:4-13 and Mark 10:13-16. It was done though a Catholic hospital so it was a religious ceremony.
Good advice! I was a little wary of the lanterns, so we'll probably steer clear.
