i read your birth story and had to comment that i totally agree with not being able to be on your back! i was up walking, squatting, and stretching all through active labor until i knew i was ready to push. i called my doc in to check me and she wanted me to push on my back and i refused! i wanted to deliver in a squat but she wouldn't let me so i did it on my side with a leg in the air ( and switched sides half way through) i felt like i couldn't put any pressure on my lower back/tail bone because to me it felt like it would hinder my progress! (my doc thought i was crazy) but i only pushed like 7 times so i think my feelings were right!
