It just struck me Peanut's dad has a murmer, and has had it all his life. Should I bring this up Thursday at my 12 week appt? Or am I finding things to fret over?
I would mention it. I know last time at my first appointment they asked a variety of family medical questions to get an idea. But I wouldn't let myself worry about it right now. My grandpa had a heart murmur and lived a long full life and died in his late 80s of something completely unrelated.
You are finding things to fret over. I also have a heart murmur and you'd never know it - I'm very active and have great cardio. They are very common in children although most people will grow out of them. And in any case they aren't always hereditary.
I'm a nurse in a newborn nursery. Just let the pediatrician know after the baby is born that your DH has a murmur. Chances are, the nurses will pick up on it when assessing your baby. Lots of babies are born with murmurs and most are harmless and go away on their own. If your baby is born with one, most likely they will just have you follow up with a cardiologist. No need to worry.
