Parenting

Had one the most terrifying parenting moments yesterday...

I was crossing the street with DD1 to get to our car after taking her to a halloween festival with my mom. In order to get to our car, we had to cross over railroad tracks and cross a street. It was raining so we were running and DD1 slipped and fell as we were crossing the railroad tracks and got her elbow stuck in the tracks. I panicked immediately and started yelling for help because the train comes through there very frequently. Fortunately 2 off-duty paramedics were walking past and immediately came to help and they along with my mom were able to get her to relax her arm and pull it out. I was shaking after it happened and started crying, imagining the worse. I still feel sick thinking about it. We have tracks near our house that we cross frequently to go to the park or for a walk never really thinking about it. It's going to be a while before I feel comfortable crossing them now.

  • Wow. I'm so glad everything is okay. It's so fortunate that the paramedics were nearby to help. We live close to railroad tracks and often walk or take the stroller or bike over them, and I'm nervous about something like that happening. Hugs!
  • That's so scary. I'm so glad that there were people there to get her free from the tracks. That's something that I wouldn't have even considered happening.
  • I had no idea that could even happen, how terrifying! I'm so glad she's OK.

  • Oh, man! I would have cried afterwards as well. DD choked on some fruit the other week and it scared the crap out of me! It definitely had me thinking "what if". Scary! I am glad you are all ok.

  • Holy Crap! How scary! You handled it better than I would have. I would have immediately panicked and attempted to chew off her arm to set it free!
