Communion wine?

How many of you plan on taking communion wine while you are pregnant, and how many don't? It is such a tiny bit of low-percent alcohol so I am wondering.... There is a grape juice option at my church, but as soon as I get in that line everyone will know why and we were not planning on announcing just yet!

Re: Communion wine?

  • A sip of diluted wine isn't going to cause FAS and anyone who claims that's how their baby ended up with it is a liar.
  • You can always dip your wafer in the wine if you are worried about the sip part.
I personally would not worry about the alcohol content of said sip either.

  • Its a tiny sip, it won't hurt you. If it bothers you that much you could always just pretend but its really no big deal.

  • Just touch the wine to your lips if it's really going to bother you. Also, I don't know your denomination, but I'm Catholic and there are definitely people who just skip the wine and make the sign of the cross as they pass. As long as you're not serving as a Eucharistic Minister where you have to drink all of the leftover consecrated wine, I think you're good.

  • I'm not catholic so my church only does grape juice but I would still choose the grape juice because the wine they usually have for communion is gross haha
  • Thanks everyone! I think I will just drink the wine and quit worrying about it (I bet there is more alcohol in some overripe fruits haha). Plus we have the tiny shot glasses so I won't have to worry about the common cup
  • Since I sing in the choir, we get communion first. So there are only a few people in front of me! Otherwise I might be hesitate to drink it. Well the first Sunday after we found out, I put of
habit went to take the wine. As I was drinking I thought, "Oh no! Little One!" I then watched the line and saw lots of pregnant ladies in line! I don't think one sip every week will hurt them!
  • I wouldn't worry about it terribly considering doctors are now saying a glass of wine is perfectly fine during pregnancy. It's not like you'll be guzzling the whole glass!

  • Our church has the option of both the "Common Cup" and the Individual Cups.  It's rare for anyone to use the common cup so, individual ones it is!  They have an inner ring of the white grape juice for those that cannot have wine/alcohol.  Well, I decided to cut out all alcohol during this pregnancy (although I think the amount of communion wine is fine) and reached for the juice.  The cup was STUCK in the hole and it felt like an eternity before I could get it out!  I told DH, well, at least Pastor knows and maybe the gentleman next to me.  So much for the secret!
