Why don't all insurance companies HAVE to cover IVF!!

Sooooo irritating that our Federal Insurance doesn't have to cover IVF even though we live in a mandated state. Anyone else want to strangle their insurance company??

  • I have great insurance, but it only covers 50% until its IVF then it doesn't cover it at all. So, we were completely OOP (well we financed). It sucks, and when we did our IUI's my RE didn't even participate with our insurance so again we were OOP for that. Ugh...

  • I am just starting to look into IVF (will probably start IUI next month). I'll be OK paying for IUI but if we need IVF I have no idea how we will cover it. How do most people do it? Do most people do financing through the doctor's office? My insurance covers 100% of diagnostic stuff but once we get into IUI/IVF we are on our own. Sucks.

    TTC #2 since 8/2012

    IUI #1 April 2014: BFN

    IUI #2 July 2014: BFN

    BFP: September 15, due May 22nd 2015

  • Our insurance covers medications, blood work and ultrasounds.  Anything considered ART is not covered at all.

We financed through our credit union with a pretty low apr. I know that my RE office took "care credit" a credit card for medical expenses. I know they offer 0% apr for like 24 months. We couldn't pay off $20,000 in 2 years. So we went with our credit union for 4.5 years. I know it sucks (insurance coverage) our baby payment is $50 less than our mortgage ever month BUT I would do it all over again if/when I need too.

  • Our insurance is awesome too. When I did have the baby it only cost me $400!!! I understand about being positive about having to have IVF. I'm more nervous I think this second time around, and we are trying IUI first.

  • We're still paying on DD's delivery. And all infertility services are OOP for us as well. Add that to our student loan debt = we will be broke forever. All because we got college educations and wanted to have 2 freaking kids. Life is just plain unfair sometimes. Blah!

  • We had to do IVF to have DD and unfortunately didn't have any frosties. We were totally OOP. We will start IVF #2 soon trying for lo #2. It's just so frustrating that we'll be OOP again!
