Question about first ultrasound.

I had my first ultrasound on Wednesday. I think I was about 5 weeks, 1 day then, based on not taking ovidrel till day 18. Nurse and Doctor said I was nearly 6 weeks due to my last period. They said they were just looking for placement this early and to make sure it wasn't ectopic. They showed me the gestational sac and yolk sac which is what he said he wants to see at this point. Then he said it was measuring 5 weeks, 6 days. At that close to 6 weeks shouldn't we be seeing more? If I was measuring 5 weeks like I thought, I wouldn't be so nervous. I spent so many years trying to get pregnant that I never realized there was so much to worry about after!

At my US (6 weeks exactly), we saw the heartbeat but the tech couldn't get the doppler to read the heart rate. And she spent about 30 minutes looking REALLY HARD! 

So, I would say that at 5w6d, you might have seen the HB but I wouldn't be worried that you didn't. When is your second US?

Between 5-6 weeks it is perfectly normal to only be seeing a gest sac and fetal pole. Between 6-7 weeks you will start to see a heartbeat.

It's still early - I'm sure your doctor would tell  you if there was anything to be concerned about

Sounds like it may be too early. My RE scheduled me a 6 week u/s but cautioned that we probably wouldn't be able to see the heartbeat at that point. I bet if you go back in a couple weeks you'll be able to see more.

At 5w4d all we saw was the gestational sac, egg sac and fetal pole.  I had an extra ultrasound at 5w6d and at that time we saw everything again and a little flutter of a heartbeat.  My RE was very surprised to see it as it was really early.  The HB at that time was slow but my RE thought it literally had just started beating.  Don't stress about not seeing a HB.  My RE doesn't like to try and look for a HB and rate until closer to 6.5 weeks.

Yes, I go back Nov. 4th because my doctor is out of town next week, and completely booked the following week (due to being out of town). I keep telling myself that if he was worried he would send me to the other practice on the other side of the county sooner.
