Baby Names

ava vs. clare

I've posted before on both of these names separately now with 4 weeks to go... I like both, but leaning more toward Clare...DH likes Ava more

both would have middle name Eileen...

Thoughts? and yes Ava is more popular I know but  feel like it's a year or two ago or am I just being delusional and trying to convince myself of that?

DS is Leo

Throw it all at me.....I need to hear it :)  Thanks!

Re: ava vs. clare

  • Clare! Sounds amazing with Eileen, and I love it with Leo.

That's my fav spelling of it too.

  • I love Ava, even though it's popular. I think it's such a pretty, glamorous name.

Clare is just meh for me.

  • I love both, but I think Clare flows better with Eileen and also sounds better with Leo.

  • So funny you  mentioned Ava Clare...I love how that sounds too.... I just really want to stick with Eileen for the family connection
    loving the feedback though

  • Clare!

  • I prefer the flow of Claire Eileen to Ava Eileen. Too many vowels in the latter.

  • Clare...so done with Ava which is still popular even now...but I like the "Claire" spelling but "Clare" isn't terrible either.

What if you used Ava Clare as a double fn or Ava Clare Eileen with two middle names? Otherwise, I vote Clare (love this spelling btw).

I agree. Claire > Ava but Ava > Clare.

  • I too prefer the spelling Claire. I love both names and strictly based on popularity I wouldn't choose Ava.

This. Not only is Ava way too popular/destined to be dated for this time period, but I love Claire/Clare. That's what I named DD :)

  • Yeah I honestly like Claire better. Ava is getting way overrated and trendy. But if the whole popularity doesn't bother u then go for Ava. And I agree with the spelling of Claire not Clare. :)
  • Yes, we are considering Clare because that is the county in Ireland where DHs family is from, so although it would be "claire without the I" it's more for that family connection

Thanks all for your input, its still pretty even!!! haha...
  • Claire. I've never really like Ava. Claire is pretty and classic.
  • Saint Clare is the patron saint of television.  THat gets my vote ;)

  • Loving Clare! It was on our short list, though I prefer Clair. Love it's simplistic, classic style.

  • Love Claire. I must be honest, I prefer it with an I and I think that I how most people will spell it
  • Love Ava Clare and even PP of Ava Clare Eileen.

I love the name Ava but have stayed away from it because of the popularity. Clare is forever classic to me. I guess if Ava Clare isn't an option I am slightly leaning more towards Clare Eileen
