Anyone with shellfish allergy have HSG test?

Hi - DH and I had our first appointment with the RE last week. I'm scheduled for an HSG tomorrow. I have to do Prednisone and Benadryl prep due to my severe shellfish allergy. Anyone else have the test done who has a shellfish allergy? Thanks!

Hey!! I have my HSG on Thursday and also have a shellfish allergy. I have read online that only 3% of people are allergic to both shellfish and iodine.

I am bringing my EPI pen, but not doing Benadryl.

I have a mild shellfish allergy (I get a really nasty rash) and I had no reaction to the dye. I was also prescribed prednisone and benadryl. I have read that just because you are allergic to shellfish doesn't mean that you will be allergic to the dye. Good luck!

Had the test done today. Paranoid me thought I saw a hive on my arm after the procedure but I think it was just a mark from where I scratched myself. "> I did feel a little lightheaded for about 20 min after the procedure but I had read where some get lightheaded or dizzy after. Love that I was able to get immediate feedback and see the pictures on the monitor. Right tube was open and spilling. Left tube was partially blocked. My right ovary was removed when I was 16, so herein lies the problem - the side with the ovary has the partially blocked tube! My RE said sometimes a tube can pick up an egg from the other side but guess it hasn't worked for us yet! The doctor who did the procedure today was able to get the dye only half way through the left tube. She said it could be something on the far end that's plugging it up or one of my fibroids could be partially compressing it. Will see my regular RE next month (after all testing is done) so she can review all of the test results for labs and procedures we've had done and talk about next steps.

I'm happy you got some answers and will have a plan this month. I am very happy to hear. .. no reaction to iodine! I'll let you know how mine goes today!

I did not have a shellfish reaction! The RE (not my normal one) said that the more and more research they do, the more and  more they show the 2 are not linked.

Yay! Glad all went well. I have been hearing the same - seems like folks have a different opinion on it, depending on who you ask. Were you able to get some immediate feedback on your test?

I posted it in the other thread. I did get results. My tubes & uterus both look good. I have a gray spot that might be a polyp, I will need a test for that next cycle. I'm waiting to find out if we can proceed with the clomid/ovidrel plan or if I have to wait until after next cycle, after the polyp test/possible removal.
