Doctors Appointment Advice

Hello all,

I am very excited to have gotten my BFP today! I want to call the doctor to get an appointment in early November, but I am not sure who to call. My normal gyno is amazing, but she is associated with a hospital that is far from my new house, and not the nicest. There is a hospital much closer to me, with a new maternity wing that I would rather go to. I was able to get the name of the doctor my SIL went to (associated with the new hospital). Do you think I should make the appointment with the new doctor? The other suggestion I received was to go to my doctor and explain the hospital situation.

Any opinions?

Re: Doctors Appointment Advice

  • I would check out your SIL's doctor and if you don't like that doctor go on your insurance website and search for gyno's associated with the hospital you like.  That's how I picked my gyno.

  • Congrats on your BFP. I'm just writing to say don't get your hopes up about scheduling an appointment in early November. Most doctors won't see you until you're 8-12 weeks pregnant. I have to wait 6 weeks for my first appointment, it sucks.

  • I would go with the practice that you are most comfortable with.  The hospital doesn't really matter to me because I go to a midwife practice where the midwives stay by your side the entire time you are in labor so it really didn't matter to me what the nurses or hospital policies were because I knew my wishes would be honored with my midwife their.  Finding a practice where you can at least feel comfortable and trusting of all the practitioners is invaluable.
  • I would go to the new doctor. If you happened to be high risk towards the end, you might feel better with a closer option. Good luck!!
  • Also, I was in a similar situation. I just moved across the US. I dont know many people here besides family so didn't have much to go by. I booked my OB based on reviews online. And so far, I love the office!
  • Thank you everyone! I used a little of everyone's advice. I called my normal dr, who understood about the hospital situation and had two names to give me for the closer hospital. She was also able to tell me my SIL dr specializes in high risk pregnancy, and she wasn't sure I would be able to get an appointment (she was correct).

I then went online and looked at the reviews for the names she gave me. I made an appointment yesterday evening.

Again, thank you for all the wonderful advise.
