NBR: Salt dough ornament ?

I want to make ornaments with DDs footprints in them for the grandparents for Christmas. I have a crap ton of sugar, but not a lot of salt. Does anyone know if you can use sugar as a salt substitute? I can't seem to find anything online that explains if the salt is used for texture or actually serves another purpose that would make the dough not work if it isn't used....

Re: NBR: Salt dough ornament ?

  • I'm pretty sure the salt is what makes it dry hard?? I am certainly no crafter, though.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • I'm pretty sure it has to be salt... I've never heard of it being made any other way. Good thing is salt is pretty cheap.

  • Sugar won't work
  • I'm pretty sure the sugar would break down and decompose not to mention lure all sorts of creepy crawlers. Stick with salt!
