What is the earliest you can hear the heartbeat?

Hi all! I am going in for a doctors appointment in a few days. I am not getting an US but wanted to know how early you can hear the heartbeat without one.  Thanks!

Re: What is the earliest you can hear the heartbeat?

  • We were told 10 weeks. We saw the heartbeat at about 7 weeks and we have an apt to go back for another U/S and hear the heartbeat at 11.5 weeks. :) Hope that helps!

  • With this pregnancy, we had a transvaginal ultrasound and heard the heartbeat at 6 and a half weeks.
  • My second appointment was when my doctor started trying to hear the heartbeat, it took a little while to find it but after about 45 seconds, we found it! I didn't have an ultrasound either but the 12 week appointment was when she used the doppler.

  • By u/s 5.5-6 weeks, by doppler 9 weeks. A lot of OB's won't look for it with the doppler till closer to 12 weeks though. They just want to be sure they can find it and not make you worry unnecessarily.

  • We saw and heard the heartbeat at 7 weeks and 5 days through vaginal ultrasound. It was amazing!!
  • Not that it is a big deal, but you are actually just "seeing" a heartbeat at 6-7 weeks via trans vaginal ultrasound.  The machine may simulate a heartbeat sound, but you aren't actually hearing it.
