White Noise to Sleep

Our LO needs white noise to sleep at night and for the majority of his naps.

Currently, we are using an App to play the hairdryer sound from our smartphones. One of us gives up our phone for the night and we put in down by baby for the entire night. If the white noise stops, baby wakes up.

We would like out phones back. Any ideas? Any good machines that are not on a timer? He also likes it pretty loud.

Thanks!

Re: White Noise to Sleep

  • I have a small mybaby homegenics brand we got for $10 at buybuybaby. It is battery powered, small and portable with a clip for a car seat bar, etc. It has white noise, waves, heartbeat, and music but we use the white noise the most.

It's awesome and I love that I can grab it and bring it around the house. DD is sleeping in a RnP and I just kind of prop it up behind her and it works great. Just make sure you have a lot of AA batteries!

Thanks! Does it play continuously? Does it get pretty loud?
  • Yup it plays until you turn it off and it's pretty loud if you put it near his head.
  • Awesome. I will check it out.
  • iPod? That's what we use. We have downloaded the "baby got colic" song that plays on repeat. It is continuous white noise. Then we also use the "sleep genius" app as well.

  • We just use a mini heater with a fan only option. Obviously not blowing on him but close to his swing we've been putting him in. It's a fairly weak fan but loud enough it does the job. :)

I was looking for something like this as well and quite a few people recommended this: https://m.buybuybaby.com/m/product/marpac-dohm-nsf-the-official-sound-conditioner/1040617213

You can adjust the volume and type of fan noise, and it stays on until you turn it off. So far, I think it is definitely helping LO fall and stay asleep.

  • We purchased the Cloud B Tranquil Turtle for $55.00 from Babies R Us.  It has a timer, plays music or ocean sounds.  You can see a preview on youtube.  We love it and so does the baby.

  • We use the Marpac, too. In fact, I just bought a second one for DD2. A bit pricy, but really works to drown out random noises. I like that the motor creates actual white noise and not just a recording. Also, go to bed bath and use a coupon.
