Exercise of choice

Re: Exercise of choice

  • Hopefully now that my symptoms are starting to level out I can rekindle my relationship with my favorite elliptical at the gym. I also own a FitDesk but haven't used it in the new house yet.
Glad to hear your symptoms are leveling out.  Such a great feeling, isn't it? Enjoy the elliptical.  And how is the FitDesk coming along?

  • I'm trying to walk/jog a 5K 2-3 times a week.  Plus I am doing some bodyweight exercises and work with 5lb dumbbells a few times a week as well.  The jogging is not going so well - it makes me feel like I have to pee.

  • I use the stationary bicycle a lot.  I also try to do one weight lifting and one cardio class a week.

  • Chasing my son and working as a CNA? I'm 13 weeks and that's still all I have energy for. :(

I'll be honest, I haven't done any type of exercise since being preg and before that it was verrryyyy limited. I may do some light weights and walking but that will be the extent of it.

    This. Exactly.
  • Well I have a 3 y/o and a 16 m/o so they keep me pretty busy as well, but I love my yoga DVDs and I really love Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown - not prenatal but I'm still doing it.

  • I just started feeling energy enough to do anything... so walking for me.  I could try jogging, but I feel like my days are already so full that walking would be more enjoyable and not pushing it, so that's what we've been doing and I'm really liking it!  I'll have plenty of time to put my jogging shoes back on once the baby arrives

  • Strength (I don't do heavy but I also don't go to the gym) as in bicep curls, shoulder press, squats, typically russian twists, planks, push ups etc. And walking/jogging/running. Used to be 80% jogging, now it's more 20% jogging and walk the rest lol. It depends on the day and how out of breath I get. I still try to at least jog 1/4 mile on a bad day, .5 on a good day and 1 mile on a great day to keep my body from forgetting how!

  • Question about Barre classes... my gym doesn't offer any prenatal classes, but has a Total Barre class I've been interested in trying. Is that something a pregnant and somewhat reasonably fit person could jump into without having done it before?
  • Pilates, sex, running, sex, walking, and sex.

  • Walking is my go to. But it's getting cold out and harder to motivate myself to get out there. I always love it once I do though. I think I might buy a light yoga DVD too. Like a stretching one. I need to release some tension and haven't been sleeping well as a result.
  • I was a marathon runner pre pregnancy and I just can't run now. It's too uncomfortable and I can barely make it past three miles without having to pee. But SWIMMING is my new go to. It's AMAZING! It's so low impact but you still get a killer workout and a good calorie burn. When you feel incapable of performing your go-to workout, it's a lot easier to cut out the workout without changing your diet since it's all habit. A marathon runner diet without the running is no bueno for weight gain so that's why I was so happy to find something with a good calorie burn, since diet adjustments can be so hard once you get used to them.

  • Before getting pregnant I worked out 4-5x a week. I played roller derby and really liked the Chalean Extreme weight lifting dvds. I have no coordination for dance type aerobics. Lately I haven't had the energy to workout that often - some walking on the treadmill. I did purchase Sara Haley's Expecting More dvd. It has 6 different workouts and I've tried only a couple so far. The Sweat Funk one though - no good - I have no funk lol. I think the routines will be especially good once I'm farther along. There are a couple of times when she prompts you to "touch your baby belly" and I have nothing going on there yet (except bloat.)
  • Stationary Bike and Zumba!

  • I take the stairs at school, walk my dog uphill when I walk him, I also walk to my car instead of taking the shuttle when class is over. I like walking. I also have found a new love of house cleaning
  • Elliptical, swimming, weight training (I don't lift anything heavier than 20 lbs.) I used to practice bikram and heated vinyasa flow (yoga studio's temp was set between 95-110 degrees) but had to give that up for the pregnancy. Shopping around for a good prenatal yoga class. Miss getting a good sweat on my yoga mat. Regular yoga is not the same as heated yoga. I can't wait to get back into it.
