Baby shower for #2?

We are expecting our second daughter in December. Our first will be two in November. My mom wants to know if I want to have a shower, and I wasn't sure what to say. She loves throwing parties, and she and my mil are so excited about #2. I'm just not sure we really need it, and I don't want to expect gifts. Plus I feel like it might be a lot for family, since we will have #1's second bd party probably around the same time. Thoughts? I've heard tell of a thing called a sip n see, but I'm not really sure what that is. Any suggestions, or your experiences?

Re: Baby shower for #2?

  • If someone offers to throw you one you can accept. If you don't need it then you can decline. If your other LO's bday is close I would probably decline.

A Sip n' See is a little party after the baby is born. Usually a brunch or tea. Hence you sip tea and see the baby.

  • My group of friends like to throw Sprinkles for those on our second, third, etc...child.  The gifts are kept small and the party is more about celebrating the little one.  Oh and there is cake :)

This. One of my closest friends offered to throw me a sprinkle for this LO. I jumped at it, mostly because I wasn't pregnant at my first shower and want that experience.

IF there are any gifts, they will be either handmade items or books.

  • I had a baby shower for #2 but I am kind of a different case. This is #2 for me but my SOs first. His mother, sister, and grandmother threw me a shower for his side only. I invited grandma's from my side as well as my two best friends and that was it.

I think that if it was offered and if that is the norm in your family to do multiple showers for one person, then I would say go for it.

  • Eh I would accept since it is offered, but I would not add registry info to the invite your mom can pass it along if it is requested. Keep it small as well just family and close friends :D

  • I had one w. #2, it was offered & thrown by a close friend and my MIL. It was great and helpful having a a boy first and then a girl 4 years apart. It was small & nice to have people there that were genuinely excited for us!
A sprinkle is also an idea (pretty close to what we did)
A sip n see is nice & low pressure too! Everyone wants to meat the baby and those that are comfortable bringing gifts, will.
Or maybe just invite some girlfriends over for a wine & fondue night after the baby is born and get some good laughs in... I'm telling ya, those that want to bring gifts to celebrate you're new family member will.
  • I had one wuth my 2nd although it was a complete surprise. If anything, the only thing I needed was diapers and clothes for a different season (due in October now and my DD was born in May)

I'd say if someone is offering, accept it.

  • I just had a "sprinkle" thrown for me yesterday.  It was at a house and casual and nice.  Got mostly clothes from everyone (since I am having a girl this time it was greatly needed) It was not something I asked for or suggested but nice none the less
