Should I call Dr? Advice please!

My (almost) 4 week old is on day 5 of extreme fussiness. He nurses every hour (but nighttime he goes every 3-4 hours) and cries a lot! He does kick his legs, so I've done gas drops and warmth on his tummy, but this doesn't seem to help at all. My mom came over a few times this week and is persistent that I call his pediatrician as it appears he is in pain. Online, I have read that he may be going through a growth spurt, so I don't want to call Dr. if not needed. What should I do? I'm a new mom, fighting PPD too, so I'm so overwhelmed with this :( Help!

  • DD went through a phase like that, too. Has he been passing gas/burping/pooping? Those were the hardest for DD and it really bothered her for probably 2 weeks. We used Gerber probiotic drops and occasionally ColicCalm. Gas drops never seemed to help her at that point. Also, belly massages and baby yoga for gas really helped. She would sleep like a rock after she got a bunch of gas and poop out of her system.

  • Update: I caved and made him an appointment. If anything it'll make me feel better.

  • Yes I would make an appointment, then at least you know nothing is wrong with your baby, don't feel dumb for taking your baby in no one will think anything of it.
  • Never let someone make you feel bad for what you feel is the right thing to do. Also, have you tried laying him on his back and bringing his bent legs into the seated position? Like the bicycle pose? Oh gosh the sleep deprivation has my words all mixed up. Haha.
Either way, that may help relieve some gas. Try eliminating certain foods from your diet, too. I had to stop eating peanut butter and milk because DD would act just as your DS is acting. But once it was all out of my milk supply, she started feeling way better :)
